My neutered dog will sometimes try to hump guests. There are two people that my dog will always try to hump. The other people, he only tries to hump if they are playing with him a lot or if they are being really noisy.

I'm very good at knowing when my dog is about to hump, so I call him over to me and have him sit before he even starts. Is this the best I can hope for?

I used to train dogs. The humping behavior is not something that goes away in all dogs after neutering. The behavior is due to dominance rituals and establishment. In other words it has little to do with sex in the first place. The best way to control the problem is to teach him not to do it. Using the off command works for some people. Distracting and redirecting the dogs attention as you have started to do will also help. Another thing to try involves you warning your Friends that he does this and try to get them to help by asking to turn their backs to dog and ask him to sit jumps up on them. In short, don't allow the dog to anything that you feel is rude or incorrect for your household. They are much like children they will do whatever you allow them to do.

I would suggest asking a pet trainer about if getting him trained would help him stop this behavior. If they think that this would help break him of this negative behavior then enroll in classes as soon as you can. It aslo sounds like he hasn't figured that he isn't supposed to want to do that.

Good luck with your baby.

This is becuase he is trying to show that he is the "alpa dog". To show that you are the dominance, don't let him on furnature or up to your level. This will probably show him that you are in charge and not him.
