Mirrors lie! But cameras tell us the ugly truth!

Depending on the quality of glass for both camea lens and mirrors... but all things being equal, mirrors give you the reverse of your image (put a newspaper or magazine or a nametag in front of a mirror and you'll see) and a photograph will give you an image as you were the split fraction of a second that image was fronzen in time, never to change again from that split moment in time.

A person's reflection on a mirror that is 1/32" is not as good as a mirror whose glass is 1/4" by virtue of the reflected light and the depth of the glass. Or, there's more image detail in a quality lens with quality glass formula as compared with a flimsy, cheap lens with inferior glass formula which eliminates barrelling/pincussion effects and abberations from different color lights focusing at the same point on the camera's sensor or film plane.

We tend to be more conscious of ourselves around cameas, but not around mirrors... maybe because we stand in front of a mirror once, twice or several times every day (some people moreso than others), so we get used to our reflection and we often don't see the subtle changes (like someone who hasn't seen us in a while will surely notice). It isn't a matter of a mirror or camera "lying" but moreso our inability to be comfortable in front of a camera and our familiarity and level of comfort in front of a mirror.

If someone takes a candid photo of a person (who is not aware that the image is being taken) the person will look relaxed and natural in his/her environment; but, the minute the person is aware of the camera, he/she is affected by the camera's presence and will react positively or negatively to it... particularly if the person is very conscious of his/her appearance. But, that same person looks at his/her reflection everyday while grooming and will sneak a glance when he/she passes by a mirror or a glass that reflects one's image and not act or feel conscious...

Isn't that curious? I guess it's not the mirror or the camera that lies to us... it is US; WE LIE TO OURSELVES (we either look "good" or look "bad" depending on our psychological make-up).
