The cable jack in my bedroom is in a really bad location. I have a pretty small bedroom and limited options on where I can move my bed. Needless to say the cable jack is in a horrible location for watching tv in bed. How do most people deal with this problem? Do you simply run the cable wires under your carpeting or do I need to call the cable company and get the jack moved? I really dont want to have visible cable wires running around my bedroom as I think that would look pretty tacky. Thanks for any suggestions you could offer.

You can add on extra cable wire. Yeah, I know... you don't want visible wires. If you use cable tackers to hold it down, you can run it at the bottom of the walls, all around the room. Take the shortest route. If the wire is tacked properly, it won't really show as long as you keep it to the bottom of the wall trim or just above and leaning on the trim. It will definitely cost less than the cable man being called in and in truth, he'll likely do the same thing to keep costs down... they rarely move a jack if it's already installed.

Good luck!

Do you have a crawl space below the house or an accessible attic? This problem, while common, is actually a pretty easy fix for a person with a little interest ant a few skills. Unlike an electrical outlet which should be left to a professional or someone else who has some more experience, this wire can be pulled up into the attic or down into the basement without too much trouble. If you have wall to wall carpeting you can measure the perimeter distance you want the wire to go, buy that much wire and simply tuck it up under the baseboard. There is usually at least an eighth of an inch under there which should suffice. Traveling under the carpet leaves a potentially noticeable lump and may unduly wear on your carpeting as you walk over the cable.

Your local cable company will move it for you at a reasonable cost. It isn't neccesary to have a cable technician move it for, but it will be the most professional looking job. The most it will run you would be 40 to 50 dollars if it is an interior wall and you do not have access to drill through the floor. When the install is on an interior they have to use a wall fisch process which causes the higher price. If you would rather avoid a service charge you can purchase a splitter at Radio Shack and a roll of interior CATV. Try to purchase RG 6 or 11. It will help to keep your signal levels strong to use those grades. Hope it helps.

I agree with you about exposed wires and cables. The cable company will move the connection to any wall you want, even an inside wall. They will charge to move it, a little more if it's an inside wall, but well worth the money spent. Just decide where you want your T.V., then call the company and tell them whether or not it's an outside wall. I've had this done in one room and plan to do it again in the guest room. I also had my outside cable ran underground. That little operation cost me $50.00, but once it was done, I didn't have to worry about an ice overload again, so it was worth the money. Good luck.

Your cable company will normally put a jack or at least run a cable where you want it under your floor. If by chance tho you have to call them to come back out to do this, it may cost you. The other option is to look into wireless.

Best option is to call the cable company and have them move it for you. Second option is to go to your local DIY store (Home Depot or Lowes) and buy panduit. It is plastic track that you can stick to your wall just above your baseboards and route your wire to your desired location... just do not forget to buy a new 2x4 box and all the extras to go with it. Ask the clerks wherever you go and they should be able to get you all the supplies you need. Good luck!
