I was at a party the other night were a guy posed this question and stated that there is no simple answer. I then asked if there actually is a difference between the two. That too, he responded stating that there is no simple answer. So first of all, is there a difference between contagious and infectious? If so, what is the difference? Thanks.

According to Stedman's medical dictonary:

contageous- communicable or transmissible by contact with the sick or their fresh secretions or excretions.

infectous- capable of being transmitted by infection, with or without actual contact.

The guy didn't know the answer and he his pride was too great or he was too big a fool to say he didn't know. What an odd thing to bring up as a pick up line at a party.
