DNA testing. Parrots (with rare exceptions like the Electus) are not sexually dimorphic, meaning you can not tell male from females by sight.

I'm not sure exactly what a Kakariki is, but I know that with most birds, the male sings, and the female does not. Also, the male is usually a lot brighter colored. Ask a professional, or the person from whom you bought it.
