That would be a day the kids are out of school..If your a teacher I would say you will be in meetings and such learning about how to be a better teacher..s

Seems to a British usage rather than US. I googled "inset day" and most of the sites were members of the Commonwealth.

well im not entirely sure but i once had to act in a film on how to be a good teacher or something which they showed to all my teachers during inset day so im guessing they 'train' (notice the inverted commas) to be better teachers or just sit around and catch up on some marking
