The main and most important way to know that the Bible is real is to obey what it says. Many of us have done this already, and as a result, received what it promises.

"And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment."
I John 3:23

When we believe upon Jesus Christ, and do as He has commanded us (loving our neighbor as ourselves), He gives us peace on the inside that is supernatural in nature:

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Romans 5:1

There are ways to know with the mind that the Bible is true, by studying apologetics, and archaeological finds, by reading books like D. James Kennedy's "Why I Believe" - these things make arguments for the mind to be persuaded. But unless you believe it is true with your heart, you cannot receive the many things it promises. The Bible is a spiritual book. It is inpired by the Holy Spirit of God, for the purpose of our spirits receiving what we need from Him. Yes, there are things in it for our minds also. But it requires us to believe.

Why is this? Because if God had made His gifts available to everyone on any other basis, He would have been playing favorites. This is what I mean. If He had made salvation available on the basis of how much money someone has, or how intelligent they are, or how pretty they are, He would have been shutting out all of the people that don't have those criteria. But because it has been placed on the level of heart belief, everyone can receive. It's just a matter of whether the individual wants to or not.

And for most, it is a matter of letting go of other beliefs to embrace what the Bible says. This is frightening to a lot of people, because they find comfort by embracing other things.

It is a fact that the bible contains *some* historically accurate records.
It is also a fact that the bible contains *some* historically inaccurate records.

Most of the rest of the bible isn't historic at all, but combinations of mythological stories meant to illustrate a point (like fables), or religious stories which have no basis in fact or history.

The standard in historical research is that any *one* source is unreliable -- for anything to be verified and accepted, there must be multiple sources for it. Using that standard, about 15% of the bible is acceptable as fact, about 45% of it is accepted to be incorrect, and the other 40% of it is unverifiable.

Some stories contain nuggets of fact along with outrageously incorrect embellishments. Take the story of Joshua fighting the battle for Jericho...it's independently verified fact that the Isrealites captured the city of Jericho. It's independently verified fact that they did NOT knock down the walls (and most certainly didn't do it by walking around the city blowing horns). There is plenty of archeaological proof that the walls were still there long after the Isrealites captured the city, making the bible story partially correct but embellished with supernatural nonsense to make the story seem more important to later Isrealite readers.

Hope that helps :)

Archeologists use the Bible as one of their main sources for finding lost cities. Science just recently discovered that if you remove a rib from a person and leave the protective sheath that covers the rib intact, that person will grow a new rib to replace the lost one. God did that with Adam 6000 years ago. The Bible talks about the Syrians, Persians, Romans, Philistines, and Egyptians. They all existed. The Bible prophecies which have come true number in the hundreds if not more. There are more people in the world who believe the Old Testament to be true than there are people who don't.

This is a question that has been asked for centuries. The Bible is true, however many of the events spoken of in the Old Testament have different names than those of other histories. The Bible has been proven to be true by many different people over the years. the Old Testament was written in a Hebrew language that is considered a dead language now and not the Hebrew spoken today.

The occurrences of the New Testament are likewise true and were written of not long after the death of Jesus. The letters which make up most of the New Testament were written and some were preserved in various places. Almost all of the New Testament was written in Greek, the common language during that time.

Much has been changed in the Bible over the many years since it was originally written to satisfy the dictates of the politics of the church over those years.

People are generally afraid to admit the Bible is true because they believe to believe in it they will be condemned by it. They believe they will be condemned by those who read and believe in the Bible. This is totally because the leaders of the churches over the century's have used the Bible to control the people through fear.

Jesus' teaching was about LOVE not condemnation. Jesus' time here on earth was to bring everyone together in love not condemnation as the church leaders have made it. It makes me sick to my stomach to know what lies emanate from pulpits all over the world that spew out fear and hate disguised as Christianity.

The Bible is true in its original writings but man has made it feared and hated.

The Bible has a lot of scientific, medical, and historical facts that are true but at the time it was written were not known truths, for example the Bible told that the earth hangs on nothing and it also tells about the size of the universe being unable to number the stars. The prophecies are one of the things that make me believe it is true.

I look at this issue as Blaise Pascal the great mathematician. He waged others that there was a God and that if you believed, you would have the probability of an eternity of happiness. If you waged against God, then there was a probability that you would have an unpleasant afterlife. So given the two options, the Wager for God is a better decision because it is the more logical choice. There is no proof about the Bible, but if you choose for God, then one would believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. Also, I think people are in denial to look around at the complexity and design of life and not believe in God or the Bible.

We know parts of it are true using the technique called "textual criticism". This in-depth analysis of the existing texts points us to the authors and the timeframes the documents were written. Comparison of the contents of the document with archaelogical findings (census documents, other historical records, ancient cities, ruins, artifacts, etc.) are also used in the analysis of what was written to determine what is true and what is not.

Not all of the Bible is true, but there are many statements in the document that are. There are also many statements that, while not strictly true, were written with the belief that they were true. So, even the non-true parts of the Bible weren't necessarily lies or intentional deception.

"Misquoting Jesus" is a great book on this subject.

Get ready for:
The "fulfilled prophecies" - which are never more than vagaries
The "historical veracity" - (Right, there WAS an Egypt .. who knew? and Danielle Steel novels are set there too.)
And, the clincher, the Bible SAYS it's the word of God. Well! What kind of a fool wouldn't be convinced by that?

There is no way to prove that the Bible is true. If you accept the Bible and believe in it, then it is true to you. If you do not accept the Bible and do not believe in it, then it is not true to you. The "proof" that people claim is nothing but their "faith" in it.

It requires faith to believe it's true. You have a choice in what you believe. Why take the chance on not believing? I believe in God ,
I am a Christian & I believe the Bible is true. I am losing nothing if I am wrong, for those of you who don't believe: What if the Christians ARE right? Eternity is a long time to be wrong; why take the chance?
