BOO!! A woman should not do it herself. In fact, she shouldn't do it at all. Women can get dangerous infections, or cause themselves to be infertile. But, if the ***** is dumb enough to kill an innocent baby, she should do it herself. Hopefully she kills herself that way we don't have to worry about her killing more babies. The mother is always the killer.

What's the difference is that the mother could cause a lot more damage should she try to perform an abortion on herself. It will in no way be the same effect. An abortion is a medical procedure to terminate the pregnancy...sure there is risk of complications as with an procedure in which an anesthesia might be involved or just any invasive procedure period. How exactly would a mother go about doing this herself? She will not have the medical equipment necessary. She could lack brain cells and hire someone to beat her up to ensure she loses the baby. I've seen some home 'remedies' on this site that are just absolutely ridiculous. If money is an issue when it comes to getting an abortion, have the child and place it for adoption.

If you are just trying to get rid of an inconvenient pregnancy - I guess you can and who is going to stop you?

The problem is that it is not that simple. Before abortions were legal, thousands of women in the US injured themselves or killed themselves every year, trying to get rid of unwanted pregnancies. The "old coat hanger" was such a common technique that it became a sick joke. If there was a quick and simple way to get rid of unwanted pregnancies, women would have been doing it for centuries.

Poking yourself with anything can cause problems. Typically, it can cause infections. Many young women were rendered sterile by massive infections of the uterus and surrounding areas (scarring of the falopian tubes can make ovulating difficult). Killing the fetus without proper removal can cause it to rot inside you, causing gangrene or similar infections.

All these are dangers with normal miscarriages and even childbirth too. People have died after childbirth because the placenta never came out. This is why it's a good idea to have a knowledgeable person check things out during or after such events...

Then there's the question - why would you want to? People who inflict pain and damage on themselves are typically sick. Would you risk killing yourself for a few hundred bucks? More likely it's a mental problem.

For simple, safer and painless ways for do-it-yourselfers to accomplish the same thing, there's RU486. It can cause an abortion (miscarriage) early in the term. Nothing wrong with that, but I would still suggest letting a doctor look things over.

It's sort of like saying "Why would I pay a professional body shop to fix the car, when I have a hammer and paint brush at home"?

Mother has a higher chance of killing herself along with the child- also if she tries to drink a lot or do drugs to "abort" the baby there is a VERY HIGH chance that the pregnancy will go along as normal but she will have a very deformed or handicapped child.

There are precautions to use so that women do not get pregnant and if she was irresponsible to not use those and was having unprotected sex then shame on her for thinking about an abortion.

it depends on the State where the "abortion" is done. For instance in some states, a doctor cannot preform an abortion after 3 months. So a women doing this to herself - regardless of the trauma to her own body - is commiting murder. Plus, it depends on the mothers age. some states require a women to have parental consent.

(I'm not taking a pro-life/pro-choice stand on this...just simple
fact folks!).

I think everyone would agree that ANYONE engaging in sexual activity should be responsible enough to make sure an unwanted pregnancy doesn't occur in the first place!

Abortions are legally performed up to the 3rd month of pregnancy. It's hard for the mom to kill the "fetus" ( it's NOT a baby at that point) when it's only a blob of cells...... After the fetus is far enough along and turns into a BABY then it's considered murder.

There is a HUGE difference. What if something were to happen and it wasn't done successfully? Then that poor child will suffer the rest of its life.

I am prochoice. To each his own. I believe in a higher power as well and it is not me that has to worry about that.

I just don't understand why in the world people think abortion is a contraceptive? Keep your legs closed, use birth control, SOMETHING. It isn't that hard to figure out.

The difference is a medical degree and training. Doctors who preform abortions (not that I agree with it) know what they are doing.

Okay, you make a valid point with this question. I am pro life, except in a few instances. I do not think that abortions should be illegal though. There are women who will be desperate enough to try something stupid to abort.

The risks are much higher, so is infection and permanant damage. If someone is going to decide to take this on, do it properly and make sure there is some couseling involved, even if they are trying to "solve" a problem there will still be conscience issues and adjustments. It is life changing.
