you must suddenly become aware that you are coming out or are out of your body and have an element of panick when you pull back each time but not in every case, these things take time and alot of patience. The fact you manage to get so far as that you kow you are pulling back is a good sign as you have gone quite a long way already, time and patience is the key and relaxation. I always find that if you do not eat or drink for around four hours before you try astral projection that it helps and try to keep meat to a minimum if possible. It will happen so be patient.

There's some ways to get around this. I find it easiest to fall asleep and then to 'wake up in my dream'. It does take lots of practise and i still have a hard time getting it right by will. Don't give up, it's worth it. I find astral travelling to be one of the only 'proofs' that the supernatural in fact exists. An exercise you might want to try:

In your everyday life constantly ask yourself "Is this a dream?" The natural answer will be "Off course not", this answer naturally occurs if you ask yourself the same question while dreaming, so then try to move something with your mind. In reality this will (probably) not happen, but if you were dreaming you will be able to make your dream lucid. Once you have mastered Lucid dreaming you will be able to wake yourself up in your lucid dream and find yourself on the astral plane. If you try this exercise for a month or so i'm sure you'll see some positive reluslts.

I have had several OBEs. There are two tricks to getting out.

1. relax the body as much as possible.

2. overcome the fear of the unknown.

There are lots of good books on the subject.

Two that leap to mind are "Astral Dynamics" Robert Bruce, and "Adventures Beyond The Body" William Buhlman.

Yes, it can be scary. I still panic from time to time. It's very frightening when you can hear what is going on around your corporeal body but can't see what's actually going on there. Sounds that shouldn't be scary are. I've had to learn to try and tune out what is going on with my corporeal body and enjoy the silent astral voyage.

I've heard people say that they meet other astral travelers, but I never have nor have I been able to hear anything around my astral self. I have never had voyages to non-earthly places or with animal guides or the like. I simply observe things and places with which I am familiar.

I've also heard that those of us who have had near death experiences are more likely to be able to successfully have an OBE.

Hello =)

Yes, successfully only once, some 30-odd years ago.

It was both exhilarating and frightening. I also had difficulty with "pulling back".... it took quite a few tries. Oddly enough, I never wanted to repeat the exercise once I had done it.

Perhaps I was satisfied that it could be done, or perhaps I was just frightened, or, perhaps just too lazy to try again.

I dared not look at myself, once I was out of myself....it seemed "improper"...but I could move about, and look at the other people in other rooms of the house, see what they were doing, look at the outside of the house.....look inside my neighbor's house, and so forth......

In general, it was the equivalent of "the mind taking flight" -- literally..... Although I was afraid to wander too far from my body, for fear of not being able to find it again. -- Does that make sense to you??

Namaste, and Happy New Year,

--Tom

I do OBE all the time either through pain overload (think leather, 'nough said) or via firedance, a very personalized ritual where I push myself into hyperthermia and exhaustion.

I've also had an NDE.

In all my of my OBE/NDE's, I have found myself in a dim cave with a large wolf easily my size that I recognize to be Fenrir Wolf of Norse mythology. The first time was the NDE, and we said nothing, I simply touched his shoulder and he touched mine and I knew I was invited and welcoem to return.

The only other being I ever felt present other than Fenrir was one OBE where I felt that Tyr, Norse god of Justice, who betrayed Fenrir and lost his hand in the process, was nearby, but I never actually saw Tyr.

I do not, however, feel that I have actually left my body or have had a supernatural experience, I recognize these things as personal symbols of significance that take form because I have been pushed or have pushed my brain into an altered state of functionality.

I've tried an out-of-body experience, but just got a headache for my efforts. Hypnosis is the way to go: you can experience anything you want to, but without the delusion that it was real.

I came close once but I wouldn't allow it. Lets put it this way... there are more than just ghosts in the Otherworld. Its not safe. I don't understand why people are foolish enough to do it.

I think that if you can find a good guide or teacher, it would be a whole lot easier.
