i keep hearing about tramp stamp tattoos on lower back. Why are they called that?

From the looks of these answers I'd say that you have your answer. But I would like to point out that just because you have a tattoo on your lower back does NOT mean that you are easy or a whore. I know a few women that have these tats on their lower back and they are very successful women with husbands and families. It's just like other tattoos...it's all art. It's the persons perogitive where she puts them. some women get them there for their husbands or boyfriends alone. It doesn't make them trashy or a whore. Same with tongue rings and belly button rings. What about the men that get a tattoo in the same area? Are they whores for putting a tattoo there? Are they trashy? Why judge a woman for a tattoo and not men? So for someone to sit there and judge someone else for their tattoos and placement..ya'll shouldn't be in this forum to begin with. To each their own on choice of tats and placement!

LMAO OMG some of these answers are so funny. You are saying just cause somebody gets a tattoo on their lower back their consider a tramp. LOL I've been married for 12 years and just recently got one on my lower back. I could count how many men I slept with on one hand. Still have fingers left over for myself. Am I still considered a tramp? LOL and as for the anal comment my husband has been bugging me for years and the back door still only opens one way. LMAO What a great question.

I dont know ask my bf thats what he calls the one on my lower back... I guess people view it as trashy or slutty in some ways! I always called hickeys tramp stamps but now people are calling the lower back tats tramp stamps... If you find out good reasoning as too why they are called that let me know... Cuz Im not tramp and my bf knows this :)

PS I got mine years ago... and I regret having it... Not because its called a tramp stamp because the artist hacked into my skin and now I have scarring... Good thing only my bf see's it! Live and learn I suppose! Was young and dumb back then! Because they are often associated with trampy girls. However, my reasoning for getting one there was to get it in a place that was easily covered when I need to for certain circumstances such as work, but still not in such a private place that no one but my intimate other would be able to see it. Actually, I wanted to be a teacher when I was going to college and my sister who is also a teacher, said that teachers weren't allowed to have tattoos visible during teaching hours. She suggested I get it there because she has 8, some of which are in hard to hide places so she has to cover up very well at work. I didn't want to deal with that so, I decided lower back would be easily hideable. I didn't know it was called a "tramp stamp" until I showed my friends. I think that's a horrible term for it and I think some of the things people are saying about people who get a tattoo their are very unsympathetic. Sure, some girls get them there for dirty reasons, but not me, and not all girls.

It's a way of labeling people or stereotyping. The tramp stamp phrase is meant to say that all women who have a tattoo on their lower back is a tramp. Of course this is not true but still said.

Well when you wear a skimpy shirt that shows your tummy and lowrise jeans when you sit down you see the lower back tattoo. i personally dont think its trashy. but they have come to be associated with skanky girls who like someone else mentioned come wobbling home from spring break in cancun reaking of tequila with a tramp stamp.
