Ok, I have decided last year that I wanted to be a born-again Christian, by my choice. Well, I've entered high school, and it's so hard to keep that in mind. What, with all the music and stuff around me, going to school dances, being tempted in everyshape way or form. And cursing, how do I practice being a good Christian at school and when I hang out with friends?
*I'm a real Christian, not a hypocrite, I refuse to be a hypocrite, bible-pusher, or judge Christian*

Oh, and I would like more than just, PRAY ABOUT IT! Everyone says that, but how many actually do it? I need stuff deeper than that, like alternatives and stuff

FIRST of all read and study the Word of God. You will find that whenever someone tempted Him as Satan did, He would answer, "it is written" or "have you not read. You have to know something about it before you can do it. Do not expect to learn it all in one day, but do not put yourself in temptations path. Life is HARD of dealing with choices that you have to make, and I am sure IF you are serious about following God, you will have to make decisions that are not popular. Ask yourself this, "which would be the best for me" It's your life and only you can make the choices in it that has to be made. I think that I would rather be on the winning team than not. You have NO promise that you will live to see tomorrow, so make wise decisions that are going to have effect on you for whatever time you have on this earth left. Pray, read the Word of God, get into deeper study, and most of all have a respect for God that you would want to have others have for you. He loves you, so love Him back and watch the changes in your life. Be ready for battle my friend as sure as I am typing this the adversary is going to hurl things at you that you never thought possible, but with God all things are possible.

The first thing you need to do is study your Bible. Since you claim to be a born-again Christian, I'm assuming you aren't Catholic, so I won't worry with all of that. I am a former Protestant and I can tell you that becoming a Christian is one of the toughest things you can do. If anything, life becomes more difficult for you because of your convictions. Temptations will always be there, and the easiest thing to do is to simply avoid the situations that you find tempting. However, being in high school, you're going to naturally want to go to school dances and things of that sort. A good thing to do to handle those situations is to keep a picture of Jesus tucked in your purse, wallet, etc. and when you feel tempation coming on, take the picture out and look at it.

When hanging out with friends, I'm assuming some of them will be drinking. If that's the case, just thank them if they offer you a drink and politely refuse it.

Also, get ready to be ridiculed by some of your peers. Being a "goody-goody" Christian has never been popular, and in today's "anything goes" society, you're a prime target for harassment.

Stay strong, read your Bible so you can defend your beliefs, and PRAY. I know that sounds sort of cliche, but it really does work in the long run.

You don't have to go to all of the school stuff. I think the best thing is to find some Christian friends, and then keep each other accountable. You tend to become who you hang out with. You've heard of GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). Renew your mind... read the bible, and listen to Christian music. This may be hard at first, but take the stand. You won't be sorry. Also read and study Ephesians 6:12 and on. This speaks of spiritual warfare. Remember God won't allow us to be tempted beyond what we can stand, but He will always provide a way of escape, sometimes this is by saying NO.

attend a good bible teaching Christian church where you can learn about the wonders of God's Spirit that lives inside you. You will be amazed what the Spirit can do with you and for you.
keep your eye on God and He will help you walk past all the earthly distractions.
seek out Christian friends who love the Lord,
even at the cost of giving up your current ones.
that is very, very important, to you and to God.
When you are born again, you are no longer part of this world but a child of God and you should separate yourself, not from life but from worldy things.
finally, ask God to help you and believe that, when you ask, He already has and He already has a plan for your life. Then wait upon the Lord.
Things of the Spirit do not always happen immediately and some take some time but you will see the results in your life.
May God bless you.

Many times Children make bad choices, like becoming a 'born-again' Christian. Sooner or later you'll wise up to the fact the religion is a sucker's game. Or worse, you'll become one of the bible-pusher hypocrites you despise. The real world won't fit into the fantasy world of religion. Save yourself some pain and get out now. Religion especially, Evangelical Christianity can be define as the haunting fear that someone, somewhere may be happy and the fanatical obsession with crushing that happiness. In short, define your own path. Don't be misguided by some deluded fantasy book.

I suspect that you can be a good and still listen to music and go to dances and have friends who are something else. Granted you don't want friends who are drug pushers or gang bangers but you have to live in the real world with real people. In less you are looking for a monistic life - get out there and mingle and be true to yourself.

well stay away from the temptation. i know it is hard but if you dont put yourself in that spot then it is a lot easier to not do those things. read the Bible everyday and pray everyday that God will give you strength. and remember you are human if you do make a mistake God forgives us for it. there is a difference between trying your best and not trying at all. if you smoke a cigarette and just before you light up you say i dont need this and know it is wrong but you light up anyways. or you say i dont need to go to that party cause they are all going to be drinking but you go anyways and then put your self into that temptation place. but regardless God loves you and we all sin. as long as you try your best.

just an fyi cussing is NOT a sin.

onto the other topics: bible says to stay away from things that may cause you fail [sin against the lord]

however if you want to be around these things, then you have to have some self control and not let yourself get tempted into certain things.

keep this in mind though. you are only young once. when you grow up you will never be able to have certain experiences again (and im not just talking about sex and drugs and drinking), you will only have ONE senior prom, make it count. unless you get held back anyway.

oh and... pray about it. lol.

The bible says that you are in this world but not of this world. You will need to find some Christian friends to hang out with. But you will eventually have to hang with the unsaved. Because through you they might start to seek their own salvation. I hang out with people who curse, drink, have pre-martial sex, gamble. But because of my relationship with God I make a conscience choice not to do those things. And that is what you will have to do (CHOOSE).
