with gay marriage being recongized by the state, if the church thinks it's not "marriage" unless it's done in the church or at least reconized by the church, what's the problem the government reconizing it, the government wouldn't try to make them marry gays in the church any way, what is there problem?

the Churches want their rules to apply to everyone, not just their own beleivers. so they try to pass laws that force everyone else to follow the rules of their faith, like no gay marriage.

- if marriage was only about reproduction, why is it legal for infertile people to marry, or people too old to have children?

You can't really say "the church" is opposed to gay marriage, because there's no such thing as a single church. SOME churches (mostly those that are quite fundamentalist) are strongly against homosexuality in general and gay marriage in particular. They tend to take a few specific lines of the Bible literally, while ignoring Jesus' commandments to "love your neighbor" and "judge not, lest you be judged".

There are other churches, though, that make a point of reaching out to all people, regardless of their sexual preference. Many local churches in the United Methodist, Presbyterian, and United Church of Christ denominations take this approach.

The Catholic Church believes that sexual intercourse was ordained exclusively for a husband and wife. Marriage is the best, most efficient union of man and woman, because God created marriage. Human sexual activity is designed to promote love (unity) and life (procreation). Whenever that formula is altered or divided, the Church believes that sin enters the equation. Sex outside of marriage and conception outside of sex are violations of the unity within human sexuality.

Marriage is the bonding of a man and woman in love. The Church believes that a man and woman should be married and have children. I'm sure many atheists would say that by telling churchgoers to "be fruitful and multiply" that they are simply raising more "brainwashed" followers to raise more money and become more powerful.

However, that's not the case.

And think of it scientifically, the parts just don't fit!

homosexuality promotes moral degredation, disease, flaunting of established and cherished principles, anti-family ideals, and the feel-good-do it mentality.
If a church embraces homosexual marriage, it might as well close it's doors or replace baptism with bath houses.
The church is already watered down enough to accept the degenerates that roam the world. It doesn't need to drop it's pants and bend over a barrel to appease the pervs.

Besides being a preversion-gay marriage opens the door to things previously unthinkable. Find an anti-gay marriage website and take a look.
There is a lot more to this issue than allowing two or more perverts to "say" they are married. If you don't know-then you should check it out. If I try to tell you on YA-the hate mongers will have my account deleted.

It has nothing to do with the legitimacy, but the ethics of it. To the (Christian) church, man, woman, and child is the realization of the trinity (God, the spirit, and Christ). Homosexuality is considered to be a sin, and thus, a homosexual merriage would be a sin, and a sin to bless. References to scripture (I don't have a Bible with me, so i can't get the exact verses): In Genisis, it states that God made them Male and Female, and they were told to go and multiply, which homosexual couples can't do. In Leviticus, the people are told that it is sinful for a man to lay with another man as he would a woman. And in Romans 1:24-27 states:
"24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. "

And that is what the big deal is with the church, hope that helps.

Because it goes against what the Bible teaches. The Church dislikes sin... all sin, no matter what it is, but not the sinner. They are taught to love everyone. The Church does not hate homosexuals, just the act of homosexuality.

I agree with you....but I think many see it as a "slippery slope" - next thing you know - I'll have government stormtroopers entering my parish demanding that I marry homosexuals. That will not happen as long as I am drawing breath.
