I was just going to say earth tones would be perfect! There is this painting technique at Home Depot called Wollie 2-color painting kit. It's a duel tray for holding 2 different colors of paint, one dark the other a lighter shade, and there is a duel brush roller. You dip it into the paint and then go to your wall and make big X's to begin blending the 2 colors together. This creates a kind of 'suede' look on your wall and it's really neat! I get lots of complements on my walls due to this technique. And since your looking at earth tones, get yourself a darker beige and a lighter one and that would look super with your burgundy carpet. Happy painting!

If the carpet is Burgundy I would go with a nice earthy gold color on ONE main wall. On the other remaining walls, I would paint a few shades lighter that the gold tone.
The reason I would paint one wall darker is so that you are not closing off the rest of the room with dark colors. The one wall will give the effect that the room is gold without going all the way. I'm not sure how the room is layed out, but you might want to paint 2 walls gold and the remaining walls in a lighter shade of gold. Also, keep the Burgundy color through the room with artwork, pillows and window treatments.

Keep in mind that to have complete color harmony, you need 3 colors: 1 dominant one (usually the wall color), 1 medium one (in this case, your carpeting) and 1 accent color (think trim, molding, decorative items such as vases, cushions, etc.)
The deep beige you want would look nice just so long as you stay away from a pinky-beige, which will look more pink than beige because of the burgundy carpeting. I'd go with the deep beige (lean towards sand colors) and add olive green accents. Keep in mind that with paint, white is the absence of color so it is not technically a color. You should also add something black to ground everything.
Happy decorating!

I think you could paint them white if you want to really accentuate the deep color of the burgundy carpet. I definitely would recommend using a light color. You could also try painting a patern on your already cream colored walls. Then, you wouldn't have to spend the money to buy paint to cover all of the walls. I was actually going to suggest cream before I read the details on your question. I think a dark color would take the life out of the room. Good luck!

I was thinking dark beige or taupe. I have blue carpet, I wanted it all my life and now I'm over it. Next time I'll put a neutral carpet on the floor and then I can paint and have any color furniture I want.

Dove Grey walls would be Ideal for burgundy carpet. The touches in the room could then be shades of rose and pink, silver and black. The chicest room I ever had was decorated thus using art-deco as the theme. It was truly glamorous.
