I heard Ann Coulter bashing the New York Times for using Transmigrant to describe illegal aliens. Is this just the NYT editors term or is it the new term?

"Transmigrantes, so named for the visa given them by Mexican officials to travel some 1,500 miles through Mexico enroute to the US."

I believe some others answered the question about the names significance-Crossing Mexico.
I would just like to point out that the editors of this board appear to have a bias in favor of the lawbreakers. In Texas, we have always used a term to seperate the illegal crossers from legally residing law abiding Mexican Americans.
But for the residents of Frisco, to imply that an illegal invader has not dried off yet is apparently a racial slur! I want anyone refering to a white American as a "Pilgrim" or European to be permanantly banned as I take severe offense at the use of such Racial terms against white settlers-OOps I also hate the term Settler-makes it sound like we came to this country and turned it into a place people want to be or something negative like that!

Transmigrant is a type of visa provided by Mexico allowing Central Americans passage through Mexico on their way to entering (often illegally) the U.S.

The last article, according to the NY Times website, to use the term "transmigrant" was "THE NEW SEASON/ART; Buddha in Every Borough" on September 8, 2002.

Facts seem to be lacking in this question. If you or other answerers are trying to make a point, facts always help.

Added Info:
Transmigrant:
Defined as person who is in transit to another country and passes through Mexican territory. A Transmigrant has the right to remain in the country for a maximum of 30 days.

between the saddest components of this finished "immigration substantial difficulty" is how the human beings interior the middle of all of it are being performed as pawns. Make it a law that the only technique to alter right into a CITIZEN, and VOTE is to be born in usa, and the Democrats will drop the completed efforts they're making in want of "immigration reform". Make it difficulty-free to get an eternal green card and artwork enable and tax id quantity - yet impossible to alter right into a US citizen. it somewhat is the kind of "reform" I evaluate all and sundry would stay with.

I hope not. I find the term "illegal alien" to convey the essence of what it attempts to describe. "Transmigrant" suggests the person is only here temporarily, which entirely misses the point.

I had never heard of this. If Mexico is going to give them a 'transmigrant' visa they should require to see a valid visa from the US allowing them in at this end, or be prepared to keep them in their own country.
