No, but I don't think I can do it. I'd always, always ask myself "Did he really did it? Did I just sent an innocent men in jail for the rest of his life?" or "Did I just let this person get away with murder?". And I probably won't be able to sleep at night.

Well I was on a Jury that couldn't come to a verdict on two counts of Murder after a six month trial.
We found him guilty on eight lesser charges but couldn't agree on the two main charges.
He got 27 years anyway.
We deliberated for six days and they were the hardest 6 days of my life. The Jury split down the middle and a lot of angst and bad feeling was in that Jury room.
I don't know if I could have done it if we had the death penalty in my country and I'm not sure that Jury's are very well supported or their roles well defined to them in our court system at any rate.
I think if I was innocent and on trial I would opt for a non jury trial I think my chances of a false conviction would be lower but if I was guilty I would go with a Jury every time, you only need to sow that seed of doubt in one or two jurors minds and your free.
For the record I didn't think he did it and voted not guilty and have since been proven wrong by the offender who confessed at sentencing to one of the murders!

Yes and no. Ive never HAD TO convict someone of murder. It was a choice they made to murder someone - all I was supposed to do was be certain that they had met every point of the law....

Jury, no. I have been a party to a few military courts martials that carried the death penalty. We opted to remove the death sentence in favor of life in Ft. Leavenworth (Life in Kansas has to be pretty close to hell in some peoples book - no offense to those in the wonderful state of KS).
