about the fall of the Roman Empire? It couldn't be any more obvious unless he flat out said "the 666 beast is the Roman Emporer Nero".

Daniel, you are implying that every single theologin in the past 2,000 years not only believes in Revelation, but believes your exact interpretation.....do you understand how ridiculous this sounds? Are you too ignorant to realize this?

I know. In the history channel they were talking about this. Nero was very anti-Christians and he mistreated Jews and Christians because they refuse to worship the Roman Gods. John is said to have used code words that his fellow Christians at that time would've understand. He was criticizing the Roman Empire and his antichrist was Nero. There are clues and hints that he gave throughout the book. The mountains, the horns of the beast, and that nobody can do anything without the beast knowing. He was referring to the mountains of Rome in Italy and Nero controlled everybody as he was the emperor. Fanatics have brainwashed themselves into believing this becuase they have this to look forward to and they can manipulate people into doing what they said because of fear. You can visit any website and you can go to History Channel and see the clip of the video where theologians are discussing what John really wanted to say.

Revelation starts with the vision of the LORD Jesus Christ and to the 7 churches (7 = complete) and ends with the new heavenly Jerusalem and the new heaven and the new earth.
John wrote what Jesus told John to write and it is prophetic until the end, the Great White Throne Judgment, the lake of fire, the New Heavenly Jerusalem, and the new heaven & earth.
So, it is more than just the fall of the Roman Empire. Then there was the dream of the statue of Nebuchadnezzar (in Daniel) and another kingdom that will rise, I recall it being a mix of iron and dirt. Jesus Christ is the everlasting Kingdom that will defeat the other ones (beast/666, false prophets, satan, etc.).
Also, John protected the book of Revelation that if anyone adds to or takes away from its words, one will suffer the wrath of God or ones name is taken out of the books of life.

Revelation is about future events that have not happened yet. It foretells that God's war against the wicked (Armegeddon) will occur and that Satan and his demons will be abyssed for 1000 years during Christ's reign over the earth. That has not happened. Satan is trying very hard to mislead as many as possible before God's final war begins. Some of the visions John saw, have happened already---Jesus was crowned King, Satan was thrown out of heaven and Babylon the Great (the world empire of false religion) began to fall and is continuing to fall. Her total destruction will soon take place. The wild beast (the world's political powers) will turn against all false religion and put an end to it. Then after Babylon the Great's destruction, the political wild beast will suffer the same fate. False religion and all human ruled governments will be gone forever. Only God's heavenly government will rule over us and it will last forever. (Daniel 2:44)

Because most of the prophecies signaling the commencement of these events haven't taken place yet. Do you think you're smarter then all of the theologians of the past 2000 years?
Besides, the Roman Empire will play a part in the events of the last days through the Roman Catholic Church. That's what Revelation is talking about.

Because fundamentalist Christians are basically nasty and mean-spirited people who are scared of life and feel isolated from the rest of the human race. In response they want to see a hellish judgment brought down upon the world and all non-believers.
More than their own salvation, what the really long for is the day when they can watch the rest of humanity suffer and be punished for not being ignorant and sniveling cowardly swine just like they are.
In the case of our idiotic and insane US President, he wants to go down in history as the person who brought about the return of Jesus. Of course, Armageddon means that no one would any longer be recording (or studying) history, but as you point out, these people are not real bright.

The end of the world is on Dec. 21 2012.
It says so in the Mayan Calendar.
ALL of their other predictions over centuries were correct.
That's what I believe anyway.
Look it all up if you're interested.

Because "the Rapture" is a jesus freak's favorite wet dream, when his Bearded Sky Buddy will return to wipe out all those bums that picked on him in high school and make fun of him at the local bar, er, I mean all the sinners... *cough*
The other major reason is quite simple also. Find me one in a thousand "christians" that have actually READ their bible from cover to cover. Constantly amazes me how many people have supposedly devoted their lives to a concept and haven't even read the bloody instruction manual... The vast majority go by what they think is in there, what other people have told them is in there, and a few select passages.
Nothing creates athiests like a good cover-to-cover read of the christian bible.

But not all things that John wrote have happened. This is why I see it for the end times. Scripture doesn't have to apply just once.

Because if you have God he will give you the understanding. And just wait untill it happens, its sooner then you think. Revelations is the guide for our survivle when the antichrist comes up. Its very important to know. Not to mention interesting. To spiritually blind people, they see a diffrent story, but when you have God it all makes sense, that is how you know you have the truth.
