What does Megapixels do with a camera?

what is different with 5 6 or 7 megapixels?

It's the quality of the picture. The more megapixels, the more pixels per inch when you print the photo. More megapixels means you can blow up the photo to a large size without it becoming fuzzy. You can also zoom in further and still have good quality, where with a lower megapixel camera if you zoom all the way in the picture will get blurry. I used to have a 3.1 MP, and now I have a 6 MP and I can tell the difference. But I wouldn't get a camera much over 6 or 7 MP unless you plan on doing some serious professional photography.

The difference is in picture quality. The more mega pixels there are the better the pic quality. I have heard that you really dont need anything over a 6 unless u are an intense photographer, but something around 3 maybe be less than what you are looking for.

They determine the picture quality the higher the megapixals the better:

1 mp (megapixal) : Picture would look blocky and you wouldn't be able to enlarg it very far before it became distorted. It would also be a quite small file (0.1 mb maybe)

7mp : Picture would be very detailed and enlarging it would not cause a major dip in quality. Large file (3mb)

i read an article the other day, there was this guy who wanted to find out the difference in mp so he had a 5mp a 8mp & a 13mp
and they took the same pic with the cams and blew up poster size and out them in the front of the ny times building and asked people if they could tell the difference and hardly no one could execpt a professional, but the guy that had the experiment said she just got lucky.
