Alright in my last question I said:

"What rate in the Navy would see the most combat in a real war? (Real meaning, not like Iraq, but like a War with Iran or...you could say WWI and WWII. Where the enemy actually has a decent Navy)"
----
And a couple people asked/didnt understand what I ment by "combat". I dont mean boots on the ground, bullets wizzing past your face Army/Marines combat. I mean Naval Combat; Missles, Torpedos, Bullets, whatever; anything having to do w/ fighting or trying to sink another ship or destroying a shore port or building or whatever.

---Thanks

The Naval Personnel who would see the most combat would be pilots. The Main Strike arm of the Navy is in it's Aircraft Carriers.

But if you take out ,no pun intended, in a war like WWI and WWII the ones who would have the most combat would be the DDG and FFG boys as they would be convoying ships and doing the in the trenches ASW work BM's, GM's and Helo Boys.

I hope that answer' your question.

Since almost all rates go to sea, they'll all see combat together. Many people have said the FC rate, but in naval combat the difference between the Fire Control Technicians and the cooks is just a couple decks.

I agree with NVSQUID. I did 6 years in the Navy and I was an FC. Fire Controlmen are the ones who operate and maintain most of the Navy's weapon systems and Fire Control Radar systems. I was a CIWS (Close In Weapon System) technician while I was in. Our motto was: If it flies, it dies. But the new platforms of CIWS can also take out surface targets now, with their FLIR (forward looking infrared) cameras and joysticks.

Fire Controlmen are not to be confused with Damage Controlmen... FC's blow stuff up. It's the DC's that put out the fires and control flooding on the ships.

For shipboard combat, I would have to say FC...Fire Controlman.
They are the ones who actually have their fingers on the launch buttons.

any job in the Navy where you serve on a front line ship may come under enemy fire, even a coal tender or hospital ship

I was in combat in Viet Nam. I saw a lot of things while looking back over my shoulder while I hightailed it away from danger. I have three Purple Hearts, even if I did award them to myself for acidentally cutting my fingernails too short.
