My dog is around nine years old and she started to urinate without even knowing it a few days ago then it stopped. Last night she peed and had diarrhea everywhere and I dont know if it could be because my boyfriend gave her a hambone before this all started for several weeks now she has had a cough that sounds like she has been hacking something up she only coughs once or twice a day and not when she is excited my mother is a veterinarian but not like a veterinarian with a practice for dogs she works with cures for infectious diseases such as anthrax usually with monkeys or guinnea pigs anyway she checked Mercedes heart and lungs and they sound clear so if anyone has a ny ideas that would be great thank you.

My dog is a boxer to everyone that has asked and she has already been ruled out of kennel cough due to the fact that her lungs are clear and she just went a minute ago outside and her poo had a more solid form but was inside of a mucus sack and had a very small amount of blood in it

you need to get your dog to the vet pronto. She may have eaten something.....dogs are garbage mouths. Could be causing a colitis type situation, that will keep going and going if you don't stop it, and your dog will suffer because of this. Diarrhea is not normal, not for dogs or people. If this was happening to you wouldn't you go to the doctor? Mercedes problem is not in the heart or lungs. It's in the digestive system, you will be given instructions on how to bulk up your dogs diet if you take her to the doctor.

It could be a lot of things, but i would say get her to the vet ASAP. The hacking could be kennel cough, even if she is vaccinated with her bordatella shot, they can still get it if exposed. If she is housebroken then suddenly starts going in the house, it's because she doesn't feel well. EVERY time my dog has been sick, the first indication has been an accident in the house - and she is very well trained. If she is a little dog, the diarrhea can cause her to get dehydrated very quickly which is dangerous. Make sure she's drinking a lot of water, but take away her food until her stool is back to normal or you can get her to the vet.

I hope you have a dog house outside. Not to be cruel, but it seems like your dog could have a virus. She may need to stay outside until it clears up. I would not let the diarrhea go for more that a day or two without taking her in to see a doctor, It could be a sign that she needs some sort of medical attention. Make sure she does have a lot of water...dogs tend to dehydrate faster than humans.
Hope she feels better soon.

My dog had something similiar when he was around 2 years old.

He would strain when trying to go to the toilet outside during the day, then when we got up in the mornings he had done it in the house and it was sloppy.

We took him to the vet and they said he wasn't getting enough roughage (he wouldn't eat mixer with his wet food)

We were told to feed him chappie, which is a cheap dog food with added cereal, it smells like fish.

He had caline and morphine too for a week.

He has been fine ever since, and the only time he ever had an accident inside is if someone has given him potato.

But our vet has told us that it is not good to give a dog ham, as it gives them the runs, which is what my mom always said too, never give the dog pork.

Hope this helps, but I would take your dog to the vet if I were you.

Happy New Year...

I would take her to a vet that has practiced w/ dogs. It may be a disese you can't see. If she is a lab, then thats a pretty old age for those kinds of dogs. It may be because she is old. Check her diarrea to make sure there aren't any worms. Don't feed her any treats like what your boyfriend fed her cause that may also be the problem. Take her to a professional dog vet.

Incontinence can just be part of aging, but when you combine it with a persistent cough, I think I'd want a vet (who works with dogs regularly) to take a look at her, just in case she's sick.
