I haven't been spending a lot of time with them, and when I talk to them it feels more like a dispute or just a flat discussion. I'm scared that they may feel distant and that I don't think or care about them. How do I show them that I care or how I feel about them?

The fact you are concerned about your parents' feelings sounds like you are a great kid. I do not know how old you are but it sounds like you are now starting to have your "own life"...friends, activities, recreational pasttimes, etc....which is important for people to establish at any age after 13 or 14 years old. You are becoming your own person.... the rites of passage have begun, so to speak. Your parents on the other hand, might feel like you are "slipping away" or not under their thumb anymore, which too, is understandable. Best thing to do is to sit down with them and reassure them that you can be trusted and that they have brought you up well and...you are responsible. Also, just show them THIS "question" on Yahoo and I am sure they will get the message.....I, personally, see your message as:" I love you, Mom and Dad and I want us always to be close". You are a sweet kid in my book, for sure.

It really depends on how reasonable they are, but if they really care about you they will listen right? so say the same thing to them that you asked us, Maybe even show them that you went so far as to ask the world this question, because you wanted Idea's to show them you care. That should at least break the ice and then maybe it will feel less like a dispute.

I think if you told them exactly what you just wrote it would be a great way to let them know how you're feeling. It's normal to begin to separate from your parents a little - especially in your later teen years. The nice thing about getting older is that you have more choices about how you spend your time. Tell them about your concerns and plan to spend some time with them, feeling closer to them will come from spending time having fun or just relaxing and talking with them.

This could be awkward. The best way is to spend more time with them. Just start off by eating dinner with them every night and watching T.V. The conversations will begin to develp and things will be normal.

You should probably make an effort to spend more time with them. Help around the house, go out to dinner, visit other family members, etc.

Sometimes the simplest thing you can do is say I love you. Tell them as you listed above that you miss them and just want them to know you care.
