It means the actions are tied to a person. It is the persons actions that one does not like, not the individual person.

I've always heard it as "Hate the sin, not the sinner". You hate the sin the person is DOING but you don't hate the person doing it. You love that person and in so may turn them to God and away from the sin.

Don't hate a person because of what they do or who they choose to be, rather hate the acts that are sin. If a person murders one of my children, I must forgive them, and not hate them. It is a sinful heart that causes people to do such things. Vengeance is mine says the Lord.

it means u should never like anything that is a sin, but u also can not hate somebody who commits the sin. in my opinion whoever said this also wants u to help that person stop whatever sin the are commiting.

It means, if a person has commited a sin, say Murder, then of course you'll hate that fact, but you must love the person. The bible says to love your neibours. God loves everyone equally. But he hates the sin. We are supposed to love everyone, but hate the sin they commit.

in real life it seems to mean love the sin and hate the sinner, because without the sin you cannot feel morally superior, judge, hate and condemn people in God's name

Hate is unhealthy, regardless of the subject of hate.

We are all sinners, we should identify with all other sinners and forgive them because that is what god does.

It means "we are all sinners and should not stop loving one another because of such". Just because we sin, doesn't mean we are No Longer worthy to be loved.

Hate is a sin.

That said, I think this phrase is too often used for judging others or feeling superior to others.

Sincere compassion for someone else is relating to that persons suffering (or sin). There is no hate necessary.

It means that while we are not to condone wrong doing, we are to love the person and work to get them back on the path to salvation. If they choose not to listen, the consequences are on their own heads. Lev 20:13
