Here's the deal... I've got an older PC with a Pentium 3, either 700 or 800 mhz. Upgrading or replacing my computer isn't a reality right now. I NEED to buy an accounting package, and what I want to use is Peachtree complete accounting 2007. However, the minimum system requirements (which are also the recommended sys requirements) call for a PIII or better of 1gz speed.
My RAM meets the minimum requirements. The application features multi-user support, but I'll be using it in a single user environment.
So the question is... do you think it's a safe assumption that the application may run a little slow, but still be useable?

As long as you meet all minimum requiremets (besides speed) and it's the same processor, you're assumption is correct (IF IT INSTALLS - some install packages actually check your system and won't install on a system that doesn't meet the requirements.)
If it installs, it will run a little slower - but there's no reason (other than BAD software engineering) that you'd need a 1 ghz processor for a single user accounting package.

Shut down all items that show in your system tray, and any background products such as e-mail alerts and notifiers, plus any aplications that are not critical to what you will be doing at the time you are using this product.
If it installs and will run, it will be slow, but you are aware of this in advance, unlike others who assume because it installed it will work correctly, you already know it might not.
So assume the worst and hope for the best. Figure you will have to right down or copy/print anything that you have to enter into another program, because you most likely will not be able to open anything else while using Peachtree.

yes it will run, and you are right it will be slow. How slow will depend on what you also have running in the background.
Close all other non esential apps that hod proc time and memory.
Like Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
