Locks can be a complicated process if you choose to make it hard.. Just enjoy your hair and remember that less is more.

It is definately correct that beeswax is horrible for black-peoples locks.. I think white people use it because their hair is so straight and they have to do all types of things to it to trick it into locking. But no comment on that.

Twisting = overtwisting can cause the roots to be thin and break off. I only twist about once every 2 months with a light/clear gel and the little silver slips.. Other methods involve latch-hooking and that is a popular method too.

My wash routine - About once a week I wash my hair with shampoo like Pantene relaxed and natural, or a black soap shampoo from the african shop... I'll hit it with the blow dryer to get it dry or sit under the hooded dryer in the cold weather months, in the summer i just go out and let it dry in the sun.. Never go to bed with wet hair or you'll end up with a stank mildew smell.

sleeping = To prevent lint I sleep in a satin bonnet, or a silk scarf with my head covered, and also sleep on satin pillowcases.

oiling = About once or twice per week I'll use a lil Kemi Oyl or melted shea butter to rub on my scalp when its lookin a lil dry.

I've been locked for a year now, but I had a set prior to that for 5 years before I cut them.

Caring For Dreadlocks

Whoa, don't use egg yolks. Beeswax isn't bad for your dreads, but you only need to use a tiny little bit per dread, your not makin candles, only put it in about once a week when they are really dry.
Look for a pure beeswax, no additives like petroleum or perfumes are needed beause they will build up in your dreads. The only reason ppl think beeswax is bad is because its so hard to wash out, you need to use really hot water to melt the beeswax out when you wash them, because if it builds up in the middle of your dread then you won't lock up as easily. But it is good to provide some moisture to your dreads to keep them from getting brittle and breaking off at the roots. Don't use gel, or toothpaste, or any other wierd products. All of it will just put residue in your dreadies, just use a good clarifying shampoo, and no conditioners, thats what the beeswax is good for, that and keeping down the frizz as they lock up.
Anyway check out some websites for more info: www.dreadheadhq.com is a good one, so is www.knottyboy.com both sites have good care instructions, details on how to wash them and maintain them. :)
