Hello,
I am a high school student. For the several monthes, I have been questioned about whether I am bi polar/ manic depressive. I have not been diagnosed, because, to put it plainly, I am afraid to go to a doctor.
I have major ups and downs, never a happy medium. I either have a really great day, where I life and act like king kong on cocaine, or I am really upset, where I don't talk or anything. Its really scary for me because I don't know if there is something very wrong with me. On top of that, I feel like there are two people inside of me. Sometimes I feel uber rebellious and want to do stuff that is both illegal and hurtful for me. Then sometimes, I feel like the complete opposite, where I just feel like I could never do anything bad.
Is this normal?? I'm very confused and scared about what is going on. Do you know what is happening to me?

you need a serious assessment now!

I'm sure people around you ,..those who live around you are nice but not honest. They will never tell you the truth about yourself.

Save the planet,..see a doctor.

Hi, I was diagnosed seven years ago with Bipolar. It sounds like there is a possibility that you may have Bipolar. The mood swings that you describe are pretty normal for Bipolar. I can relate although, I dont experiance alot of the mania because I am more on the depressive side. My suggestion is to go to the Doctor to get an accurate diagnosis. You will feel better and it will ease your mind just to know. Besides if you are, than you can get the help you need and you will feel like a whole different person in alot of ways. Take care and hope that this helps. Scooter2007

Hi Ellie,
In bipolar disorder a person has episodes which last from one week to a few months in which he or she is eitrhe very happy (manic episode) or very sad( depressive episode). Depressive epsodes are more common and in only a small fraction of patiens do the two occur at the same rate.
You do not seem to have bipolar but you could be having cyclothymia, in which a person's mood can flutuate every other day or even in the same day froms extermes of happiness to depression. At the same time all your symptoms could simply be due to everyday stresses and may not be anything pathological. However this is question which you should ask a psychiatrist and not on yahoo answers. It is said that the first and most difficult step is to consult a doctor. That you are feel ing that you need to do something is a big step in itself. Consulting a doctor will definately do no harm............it only do you good. So please please please talk to your family and see someone

http://www.stresscenter.com/ Start here I wish this was a valuable when I was a lot younger. I had been told that I was bipolar and manic (which are the same thing) but when I found this and did it I was so much better. I was suicidal when I started this program now it is not a problem to deal with life. When I had started the program my fiance had died suddenly July 05, my kids had been taken by cps and I was living in a motel. NOW EVEN THOUGH I JUST GOT LAID OFF I AM NOT SCARED. I HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO FIND ANOTHER JOB OR GO BACK TO SCHOOL. I HAVE A HOME AND LIFE IS EASIER TO DEAL WITH

It's possible you are bi-polar, but it's not the only possible cause for your mood swings. Mood swings are associated with quite a few mental illnesses along with just common hormonal changes. But if you think you might be bi-polar, I suggest that you read up on it to understand the dissorder better. There is more too it than you think and being aware of it can actually help you. But only a psychiatrist can diagnose and treat you, so if you really think you have a problem, seek help. I thought I was bi-polar for the longest time until my doctor diagnosed me as having borderline personality disorder. I had no idea what that was so I decided to read about it and it really helped me to understand what it meant to me and how to help myself.

I know how you feel, although i know saying that doesn't help. I get very moody, ups and downs, and sometimes i sit and cry for no reason. Once again, I know how you feel because I've been dealing with this for a while and I'm too afraid to go to the doctor. I'm afraid of knowing. =/ I find keeping my mind occupied with things helps keep my mood elevated and exercise helps tremendously. Perhaps maybe we'll both get the courage to go and find out?

I think you should talk to a professional, this way if it's not something major you don't have to spend time worrying about it.
