It would depend on the "RE code," the reason for the discharge and how bad the Air Force needs his job skill.

My guess is no, the Air Force has no trouble recruiting. Your best bet is the Army.

I would say no...

Here is why. ... 18 months is not even one tour of duty. Clearly he got booted out early. He got a general discharge. Clearly he did something that got him booted. If they were not willing to keep him the remaining 30 months of his first tour, why would they be willing to take him back for 48 months?

This guy is hosed. Even BUSH and KERRY managed to get an honorable discharges.

That "general" discharge will haunt that guy for the rest of his life. No, he will not be able to join the MIlitary again.

It is possible - but the services are getting plenty of qualified applicants so he may have a hard time joining any service.

The thing to look at is his re-enlistment code. That is what determines if he can rejoin.

If his re-enlistment code is '1A' then he is in good shape.

As long as it wasn't dishonorable discharge he should be able to rejoin. Tell him thanks for helping to protect our country by the way.
Hope I helped.
