I've heard that excessive exercising can stop growth of a teenager. I asked a question to my PE teacher and he told me that there was no need to worry unless I use an additional ballast. I want to make sure. Can I run as long as I want to without any consequences?

You are right to worry. Exercise is good for you and you can gradually work up to quite high mileage, but, If you are a growing teenager, to much exercise and especially running will damage your bones and could stunt your growth. The main cause is lifting excessive weights (weight that is too heavy for your growing frame) and excessive miles pounding on hard surfaces such as roads . Young athletes train mostly on the grass to prevent damage to the their growing frames and injury. Running on the roads everyday and clocking up about 90 -150miles a week will cause long term damage to your growing bones and skeletal frame. You also run the risk of causing long term damage to your joints. Remember, you may feel fine now, but what about when your 40+ years. Youngsters and teenagers should not over exercise and over train because the skeletal frame is still growing and does not finish growing until about 21 years of age. I know this because I have been involved in Athletics for over 20 years. I have seen talented youngsters athletic careers ruined and permanently injured due to over excessive training. A teenager should train or exercise moderately and eat properly to maintain a good skeletal frame. Best advice to you is to join an Athletic or Running Club, they will be able to help and give advice on how many miles you should be doing at your age. If at all possible, run on the grass.

I never heard of such a thing. i looked on google it gave me nothing to that effect. It might be people trying to scare you. Or something scientist are still studying. But i know that exercising doesn't stop growth only helps you keep fit. you can run all you want and still grow.

Yes, you become a powerful midget like Arnold Schwarzenneger. I know what you're thinking. How can you tell? He's only four feet tall and all the sets are built to size and the other actors are digitally printed.

Feel free to exercise as much as you like. Just don't use crap like Anabolic Steroids, and be careful about what Vitamins and stuff you take - read the bottle to make sure it's okay for your age-group.

Exercising is the best thing you can do. There is no such thing as too much. Do not use steroids and you will not stunt your growth.

NO! lol It just makes your muscles stronger and more effective. What can stop you from growing is if you don't eat enough (or the right) foods.
