Seraquel is recently approved just for bipolar treatment. Before it (I think the approval changed one or two months ago) it was allowed to prescribe it against any psychotic and bipolar disorder.

For me, Seroquel helps me sleep (I am a terrible insomniac and it's the first thing that has let me sleep through the night) and it helps control my racing thoughts (where the thoughts all kind of jumble up and crash into each other.) In studies it's been found to have some mood stabilizing and anti-depressive qualities as well... both of which have proven true for me. I am bipolar, amongst other things, but I do not (thankfully) have psychotic symptoms of hallucinations or delusions.
An anti-psychotic doesn't actually have to be prescribed to treat psychosis. Personally, I think they should change the name of this class of meds because of how intimidating it sounds.
As far as I know it is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar mania...those are it's official uses. A doctor can decide to try it with other disorders, which is called "off-label use".
I take between 50-100 mg at night. Some people take much higher doses than that though. I had gone up to 200 but I had this strange side effect from it. The only way I can describe it is...it felt like when you are falling asleep and think you are actually falling and it wakes you up in a panic...except while I'm awake.

Seraquel formally is recommended for seizures and nervous disorders that include trembling. It is often prescribed for Parkinson's Disease. At the same time, it is now being prescribed for a broader range of nervous disorders.
I have a nervous disorder (diagnosed so often as anxiety that I believe none of the specific labels) and am taking Seraquel. It absolutely helps with sleeping and the trembling syndromes.
I have not found it the end all of my syndromes, and have found Clonozapam to be more helpful. Heavens knows, this is not the place for informed opinion or diagnosis, however, I have found that it gives less or no side effects as other meds do, but I'd suggest a question about Clonozapam to your physician. Good luck.

Seroquel is a great medication for several psychiatric conditions including Bi-Polar & Schizophrinea. I have been on it myself and it does help with my mood swings and sleep deprivation. Recently I was changed to a different one because of several different reasons. I never had any side affects with Seroquel and that is one reason I did like using the drug. I am Bi-Polar and also have PTSD so good luck with your health. Please remember the best answers about your own personal mental health can come from your doctors. Also go to:
