If I asked that question, it is a casual, off-handed way to ask what one's plans are to ring in the New Year. So, that being said,
ARE you ready for the New Year? :)

You could say - "No but I am madly seeking last years resolutions list because I think its full of some gems". People expect you to say "sure - what about you - anything fun planned?" Ahh the hardships of normal social graces.

I don't know-I hate when people ask those questions 'just to ask'-I always fumble and say something ridiculous. I wish people would stop making chit chat, because I suck at it.

I think people just ask to ask. Its like when people ask how are you and they just want to hear fine. They dont really want to hear that things are going wrong or bad.

It's really just a polite conversation starter-I doubt they have any answer in mind.

They probably expect you to be yourself!
