I would like to ask this question both for a muslim and for a christian. what act a muslim or christian must do that has the top priority in his religion.

For Muslims after believing on almighty Allah as the only one God and Muhammad (peace be upon him ) is His last Messenger/Prophet, the first thing is to clean and make pure your body, clothes and start taking Halal food
Purity of mind, body, clothes and vision is the priority.
To achieve this all certain practises, like Prayers, Fasting, Hajj Zakat are must.

Sacrifice of what is most important to the Christian. For example money if money is most important or time or love. We should give of ourselves like Christ gave to us this is not a requirement or religious act it should only be a desire of the heart for the gift given through Jesus.

I am a Christian. FAITH and WORKS. Hebrews Ch. 11 says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen...without work faith is dead." If we believe, we work for that which we have asked God for and leave the rest to him.
