Breath a sigh of relief. I would cry and laugh and jump up and down. I would pay all of my debt off completely - seriously consider paying a year ahead on all my current bills and then just wallow in the peace of mind of not having to worry about that any more. I think over the next couple months, that peace would blossom into a confidence that would allow me to make a better decision about what to do with the rest of it.

Realistically, when you get the $1 million, you will have to take some away for taxes. So, that would probably $650,000- give or take.
But, no matter what, if I had that amount of money, I would put it away in a bank account in the Carribean. (Turks is an island along the Carribean that you can put money in and pay no taxes. From what I heard.)
The reason why I would not put it here, in the states, because you would have to pay a heavy tax fine for that. There is always a F'ing catch with this government.
I would actually find a job-a better one-and I would move.
Move away from Jersey. Buy a fixer- upper and remodel the whole place (could be an partment, a co-op, a small home-all depends how I feel).
I would give my cousin and my second cousin a little something, as well as a couple of people. I think $20,000 a piece will do. That should hold them.
Okay, maybe $10,000. $1 million is not a lot these days, and after taxes and all, you have to be conservative about that money.
All I know is, I am still going to have a full- time job that has benefits, 401K plan and still have some money left over and keep that in an account.

Did you ever stop to think that people like Bill Gates and Richard Branson could give everybody in the free world a million dollars and still be billionaires? Personally, if I had a million dollars I would help the Jones' who built The Abandoned Baby Center in Kenya, another building. They are babies who were abandoned because their parents died of aids. Children are innocent and should have nourishment and love. There is too much pain in the world.
By the way, I read the answers for this question and I'm appalled at how selfish most people are.

I would have a house built a simple lil house nothing horridly large , I would Buy a Dog myself a simple truck , and a New Sportscar for SO , I would also ask him to stop working so much so he could hang out with me more than a week at a time (he works offshore so i miss him a lot). I would also buy a chicken coop and a small flock of chickens for pets...and i would live simply off the intrest .

Buy a good cup of coffee and then nothing.
I'd need a good week and a trustworthy financial advisor to decide how to structure it. By today's economy 1mil isn't as big as it sounds - especially after taxes. Plus I would want to research several charities to find the best to donate to.
Do you know anyone who is giving $1,000,000.00 today?

First i would get out of debt then i would buy my mom and dad a house and new car then i would set up college funds for hubbys kids and for nepew and niece donate a bunch to the cancer fund and aids fund and other places to find cures buy new house for me and new car and shop till i dropped
