When you drink alcohol your liver soaks it up and it drys it out and the liver turns hard like charcoal. The liver is a filter for your body. You know what happens when you have a clogged filter? God bless you and Happy New Year without the alcohol.

In the olden days when I was a nipper, it was considered a sign of a grown up if you could drink a lot and not throw up or behave like a drunk. So there were a few things we did before we went out. We ate, things like bread or mashed potatoes or drank milk to coat the stomach, charcoal does help I believe although I haven't tried it. It was to soak up the alcohol and allow you to drink a lot without looking like a 'softy'. I don't recommend it but then I don't recommend the habit nowadays to drink half a bottle of vodka before you go out so that you'll get drunk quicker either. Being an old fart I think drinking moderately is a better idea.

The old wives tales about drinking milk to line the stomach, or eating bread to soak up the alcohol, DO NOT WORK. they do not make a single bit of difference to the way the alcohol is processed by your body, except in the VERY short term - you may delay the onset of effects by _several_ minutes
If you dont want to get drunk, drink a sensible amount.

There is nothing that will soak up alcohol like that so why drink to that extent. I know of a friend of a friend who is in a coma and on a life support machine because of alcohol abuse on Christmas Eve. Surely your life is worth more than that? Why abuse alcohol to that extent.

if you have bread and butter with a glass of milk an hour or so before you start drinking it is supposed to line your stomach and stop you from being sick. it always worked with me - dont know if it was psychological tho!
