Plywood works very well for my field, but since i am an Amateur paintballer with a team, i don't get to it much. Aluminum or plastic garbage cans work pretty well, tires, and basically any wood objects, logs, stuff you can find around your house. Cardboard boxes are not the best bunkers because high velocity guns can shoot through the thin layer, but it's a last resort i guess if you cannot find anything else.

There are so many options available to you...
On our field we used a lot of welding to fabricate our towers, the turret bunker, etc...now we are using sand bags available on ebay to make the gunners nests. Feel free to look at our website and take any ideas that you want...you will be able to see what we built on the pictures tab http://www.repaintball.com

You might look at straw or hay bales - fairly easy to transport if you have a pickup. You could also just use some metal fence posts and use bungie cords to stretch pieces of tarp between them - or strech the pieces of tarp between trees the same way. You could also brace up inflatabale mattresses or chairs.

Trash cans and barrels are usually faily easy to rustle up. Also, check for big boxes behind appliance stores.

I always enjoy the plastic orange pallets that you can pick up from the post office. they make an awesome sound when the balls hit and the loud noise really gets the adrenaline pumping.
