We just cut a half wall between the great room and kitchen. The half wall is not stabel - what can I do to make it stabel?

Cutting a half wall doesn't cut it! Pardon the pun. Half walls need to be constructed with that in mind - that it's a half wall. Merely cutting off the top portion will not work without supporting the open end. What you can do is tear apart the wall down to the framing (you may be able to get away with exposing just one side). Bolt a 4x4 into the existing full wall and secure your half wall to it.. Every two feet, bolt a 4x4 next to an existing stud and bolt a bottom plate next to it. You'll need to incorporate the 4x4 and the bottom plate into the existing half wall framing. The only other solution is to secure a post to the ceiling at the open end of the half wall.
To be honest, it will be easier to rip it out and reframe it!
Good Luck to You!
