the body's natural healing time is from 10pm to 2am, it is really essential to maintain optimum health to sleep and let your body heal and recover during thesed hours. also... normal people need about 8 hoursof sleep every night to rejuvenate. night shift worker really ought to have more considering they use more energy, and they in fact usually get less becuase of the inconsideration of those surrounding them who have a normal sleep schedule. night shift workers usually get 4 hours of sleep on average. i think the body is capable of handling these extremes but will eventually get overexhausted and you are more prone to sicknesess being on this schedule. you can not function properly without sufficient rest---and your body is constantly confused because you are sleeping at night on your days off and during the day on your work days. it is just not natural to do this to your body. you have to do what you have to do to pay the bills, but you should try to find a jojb that is better for your health, and the others are right, it also causes irritability. hoep this helps

First will be fatigue. Followed immediately by an unhealthy diet. Then, your mood will change dramatically. To keep up w/fatigue, you'll begin snacking more than ever. You'll gain weight gradually. It will take time for your body to adjust to the change. That is why you'll have to stack up on water and veggies & fruit. Either way, it won't seem hard at first, but come the 2nd week...you may start snacking. Keep away from junk drinks such as full throttle, red bull and such. They provide a rush for the first hour to hour and half, but then give you a low when it wears of. My suggestion, take power naps. 10-15 minute naps.

I work swing shift. After awhile, your body adjusts to the schedule. As long as you get the proper amount of sleep you will not feel any adverse effects.
I have worked several times 16 hours shifts, with out any ill effects other than being tired after work.

Many people work nights versus days. If you are up all night, then you must sleep 7 to 8 hours during the day. As long as you get enough sleep, there is no need for concern. Your body just needs rest, it doesn't matter whether it is light or dark out, as long as you get it!

You'll burn out easily since that does not allow you sufficient time to wind down and rest.
Our bodies are meant to rest at night, as light dims outside your hormone levels adjust (melatonin) to start winding your body down. People say you'll adjust but when I did it I never got used to it. I'd get 10 hours of sleep but still have to take caffeine pills to make it past 4 am. It makes you more prone to sickness and diseases. It also takes its toll on your social life. I would only do that if it were my very last option.
