Patti Labelle's cookbook was good, and i love her
but i would also recommend Martha Stewart

my sister gave me a wonderful soul food dessert cookbook, called "Sweets: Soul Food Desserts and Memories" written by Patty Pinner. This cookbook contains all the recipes for old fashioned soul food desserts. I love it.

I would say either Patti LaBelle's or Maya Angelou's.
