No. Trimming or shaving does not make your arm sprout more follicals and produce more hair.

Think about it - the millions of women who shave their legs and arm pits - we don't have uncontrollable amounts of brown brillo shooting out from our t shirts and pantyhose! Shaving simply makes the hair shaft blunt so it LOOKS thicker. It doesn't cause any molecular skin abnormality that produces MORE hair and follicals. I'll never understand why people seem to think otherwise... If shaving produced MORE hair - men's entire faces would be covered and they would have to shave their WHOLE face....

No, that is an old wive's tale. The reason it seems thicker is that when shaving or trimming, the end of the hair becomes blunt. Normally the ends of a hair are pointed and taper, thinning off at the ends making it seem less thick than the blunted, trimmed hair. I have waxed and shaved many parts of my body and, given enough time, your hair will grow back to the way it was.

No-I shave my arm hair off and on, and like others have said initially it may appear a little thicker because of the blunt end, but in time, it tapers off and looks the way it did before.

Also, I was shaving my arms religiously for 3 years and when I stopped I noticed my arm hair was much thinner-even 6 months later. Could have to with the constant shaving or aging + hormone changes-either way, I'm happy : )

I've always heard this, but I don't think it's true. How can it be thicker? And you only have just so many hair folicles too.

My mother uses Nair or similar products on her arm hair. And I had an aunt that had dark hair on her arms and shaved them religiously and got my grandmother to promise her that if she was ever unable to shave her own arms that she would either do it for her or make arrangements for someone to do it.

If you start it, you might feel like you have to keep doing it...forever! But if it makes you feel better, by all means GO FOR IT!

No. But it can look thicker when it grows back as the hair at the end will have been blunted by cutting it.

Legend has it. But I despise lower arm hair and have been shaving mine for years. The end result has been reduced folicle growth. It worked for me.
