I have had my cat for about 6 years, she is normally a very well trained loveable animal. She has recently taken to being very mischievoud and down right destructive while I am away from home. I will find things kicked off counters and shelves, her food bowl spilled everywhere. She likes to place things in the toilet (she knows how to open the lid). She has started picking at the rugs, something she has never done. She has chewed apart almost every house plant I own. This is completely out of character for her, I have not changed the hours I keep, there has been no change in routine for her, I would like some insight as to why she is being do difficult and what I can do to nip this in the bud.

I actually took her to the vet for her routine check up about two weeks ago. She goes every 6 month so this is not a new thing. SHe is healthy, just a little overweight.

try taking her to a vet. the change in behavior may be linked to something medical.

Your best bet is to take her to the vet. I know you said your routine is normal but some things that can trigger this aggressiveness is: her litter box is full, have you by chance gotten any new pets in the house, is there anyone new coming in the house...like a new boyfriend or friend stopping out regularly, do you use the same kitty food all the time or do you change it every now and again...mix up her diet some. It honestly sounds like she is craving attention and trying to show you that she is in the house as well. Or she is trying to tell you something is wrong and this is her way of getting your attention. I hope some of these things will help. Good Luck!

Do you have any other animals in the house? Maybe your cat is just bored and wants attention. Have you considered getting a second cat? I have 3 and they play with each other all the time. They sleep during the day when I’m away at work and when I get back I usually let them go outside to play for a couple of hours.

Given that you've already gone to the vet, if none of what mageta8 said is a problem (all good things to look for), perhaps she's bored? Maybe think about adopting another cat. They can keep each other company and (hopefully) out of trouble.

I dont really know of anything you can do, cats are the type of creatures that do what they want to do when they do it, we have a cat that is like that and all the time she gets into things and does things that she knows is wrong, but there is nothing much that we can do about it cause when we tell her no she never listens and does the same thing over again

Maybe take her to a vet to see if something is bothering her.
