Don't get me wrong I love to cook, but I just got a few cook books for Christmas and there are so many things I'd like to try, but look way too hard and I give up. Does anyone else have this problem?

I HEAR YOU!! HERE HERE!! I've gone 6000 miles from home all alone after getting married to cook for my husbands guests of at least four twice every week! I had absolutely no clue about cooking! I couldn't even fry an egg before marriage! Now I'm one of the best (how modest!)! Don't worry dear... Just keep tuned on Y!A and ask us anything. We're here for you! It is a joy.. but only if there's someone supporting you! If no one is there for you out there, we're here!

Never! But I have also been cooking since I was tall enough to reach the stove, so with age and experience, comes comfort =) There are a few tricks you can try which will make it easier: With time, you will become more comfortable in the kitchen, and ready to take on any recipe!

1. Don't set any expectations. Just cook the dish without any expectations of how it will come out. Leave your mind open.

2. When trying something new, don't cook it for company. There is less stress when you're not trying to impress someone, and it will be easier when you are relaxed.

3. My favorite thing to do with a new recipe is to note any changes I made while preparing it, or to note any needed changes underneath the recipe. I almost always find a thing or two that I would like differently, and writing it down helps make the recipe more 'yours'.

4. Take the recipe one step at a time. It will be less overwhelming doing it one step at a time.

5. Set out and prepare all your ingredients you will be using. Measure the seasonings and put them in small bowls, dice all your veggies, and WASH your dishes as you go along. It will make cleanup much easier.

6. Have fun! Cooking is fun. It's creative and a form of self-expression. Just remember to enjoy yourself!!

You "love to cook"
You've passed the greatest hurdle.

Now, give that love a little exercise.

Go thru the book, and find something that immediately strikes your fancy.
Make sure you have all the ingredients called for, and jump in.

Recipes are a step-by-step guide.
Much of the hard work has been done for you in the recipe development.
As you try recipes, you gain comfort in so following them.
You also land up acquiring the necessary tools/gadgets required for your next recipe.

Explore - it's great fun.
Share your creations -- this will also give you a bit of a high.

If you make a mistake, it's "oops", then move on.

I got a couple of books this Christmas also, if fact, just now the postman dropped off one I ordered from Buy.com.
It's a pastry book -- can't wait to explore with it.

Enjoy your books, Enjoy your creations, Share your creations
Have a great cooking/baking New Year.

I LOVE TO COOK! ... I'm guessing the only reason you get intimidated by the recipes is that the instructions/ingredients list looks too long.)) ... I've noticed that some of the longer recipes end up being the easiest to prepare. So no worries, roll up your sleeves and have fun!

NO! Don't give up! Real cooking is about the love of food and bringing people together. Try the least difficult and work your way up. Keep a positive attitude and give it your best.

I love to try new things but I only experiment when I am cooking for people that I am really close with - I don't want to mess up for a nice dinner party.

its good to try new things out, if they don't work out, try again. Don't be afraid to modify the recipes in the books because we don't all have the same taste, i use cook books just as a reference or a guide, i have never followed a recipe word for word.

good luck, happy cooking

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

Never. Stop looking at the whole recipe. Once you have the shopping done break the recipe down into smaller tasks. Once you have all the little tasks done then put them all together, Voila, now you can find somebody to pat you on the back (it's usually yourself)
