Hey Dude,

If you are running windows XP, press CTRL+ALT+ESC and then select Task manager. From there, select the "Processes" tab. Make sure that you have the check box checked that says "Show processes from all users"

From here, you should be able to see EVERYTHING that is running. It may not make any sense. You can sort the column by CPU and Memory usage.

My assumption is that you are running slow and want to figure it out. CPU and Memory are usually the killers.

Under the "Performance" tab you can see PF Usage. If this is near or above the amount of memory you have in your system, sucks to be you!. You either need to kill some of those crappy processes, remove programs from the controll panel, or purchase more memory.

There is one tool that I have seen that seems to work well. It is called Free RAM XP pro at http://www.yourwaresolutions.com

Good luck,

Tom

CTRL + ALT + DELETE (all at the same time). Then switch to the "Processes" tab. That is everything that is running on your PC. If you google the name (ex. explorer.exe) you should find many sites that can tell you what it does. You should NOT end anything unless you are SURE it is not critical to running Windows or another one of your programs that you need.

Sysinternals freeware program called: Process Explorer is [hands down] the best 'all-around' utility for discovering what's running at any given time. It's especially great at "uncovering" hidden processes for users with Windows OS installed.

Process Explorer works for Windows 9x/Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003, and 64-bit versions of Windows for x64 processors, and Windows Vista users as well.
