I contacted the mortgage company, the insurance company and the records office just to make sure the lien was still good. ITS STILL GOOD! the insurance company turned it over to their attorney for reveiw.

How is that possible? You cannot sell the house until you satisfy the lien. (or as part of the closing process, satisfy the lien)

There has to be a serious mistake in the process or worse - fraud. I'd contact the closing company, then if no satisfaction, an real estate attorney.

Find out exactly what type of lien it is. It could be a tax lien or an old collection that became a lien. There are a number of different liens out there, so identifying it is your first concern.

It could be only a few thousand, and you'll have to satisfy it if it was your doing. Get more information and post again.
