If you paint one wall black and the headboard red, you should put the red headboard agains that black wall because that would be some real dramatic contrast. It should be the wall you see when you first enter the room, opposite the doorway. Then do the rest of the room in a neutral, like a bamboo-color. Don't forget the ceiling, white would be too stark. Try a cream color instead. Accessorize with your Asian theme in mind and use some natural pieces, like a bamboo rug with a black border, in front of the bed, palm leaf ceiling fan, etc. Try not to get too cluttered as Asian design is very calm and minimal. Black accents would look very nice in this room as well. Sounds like fun!

My 17 year old son wants to do the Asian theme as well. He wants to paint one wall black, the other walls gray. but that is very masculine. If I was going to do my daughters room Asian, I would paint one accent wall black, the other three walls beige. that way, as long as you have a neutral color wall, you can always switch up Asian theme comforters (well, at least most Asian theme comforters have some type of beige in it). wal-mart has a lamp that is shaped like a Chinese take out box with chop sticks (believe they use real materials for this one!!) in their lamp department for only $10. Can't beat that price. If you have a dollar tree near you, they have the candles and hanging lanterns for a dollar (hopefully they are still there). I hope this helps. If in doubt, go to the hgtv.com website. they have plenty of do it yourself projects.

Keep it simple, obviously. Black, red and gold are good basic colors to start with. Use a light wood if you do -- similar to a bamboo color. Will the headboard go up against the black wall? That would be very dramatic, I think! Have fun!!

My aunt went through the same thing. She put up red wall paper and pictures of dragons cut out. It looked really cool. Also, she got a dragon calendar. Her furniture were gold with some red. She told me that to redecorate into an asian theme, try red and gold.

You could try the other walls in a patterned wall paper maybe. That would look quite cool.
