A friend of mine was forced by his wife to go out to eat at a Chinese restaurant with other people. He HATES Chinese food. He was quite disgruntled about it and tried to hide it, but must have lost it because halfway through the dinner, he said to everyone, "I wonder what kind of "CAT" this is?" as he holds up a piece of CHICKEN!

How does one even react to this?

I think that your friend was trying to make sure that his girlfireind never made him go to another Chinese restaurant again. I think that your friend really crossed the line with the cat comment. It's one thing to hate a type of cooking, but it's another to insult people with ignorant stereotypes. I would just ignore it, I'm sure your firend realizes that he made an *** of himself.

He may have hated the Chinese restaurant, but he should have acted like an adult and put up with it. If he didn't want to go, he could have said........ "NO."
(Amazing how many people just don't say that word when they most need to.)
And I find it a bit dubious that his wife "forced" him to go out to a Chinese restaurant.

Nevertheless, he had no right to take out his anger on the restaurant and on everyone else by making a stupid comment. But I'm sure his wife has already given him a hard time about it after they came home.

However, if I was there, I'd just change the subject and pretend it didn't happen. No sense in making it any bigger than it is. And hopefully, in the future, his wife won't try to make him come to a restaurant he doesn't like.

" I don't understand why this is offensive to you. Maybe he made a stupid joke but how was he putting down the restaurant or its owners? Just because we don't eat cats here in the US doesn't mean they don't eat them elsewhere in the world. I personally do not know for a fact that cats ARE eaten anywhere but I know dogs are. From my perspective and background, this is not offensive. "

^ The person who said that above doesn't understand the question. HE SAID "AT A CHINESE RESTARUNT!" the chinese. Its a stereotype to the chinese saying that they eat cat's, when MOST OF THEM DON'T! It put's down the chinese restarunt because most chinese workers DO work there. Plus people don't like it when you just shout out a stupid stereotype that most people don't DO! Understand the question before you answer it. PLEASE.

If i was there, i would tell him to shut up, and since he's a husband, he should understand to act more mature eating at a restarunt.

im chinese =]

this childish and ignorant behavior didn't just show up and i would bet my last buck this isn't the first time he has made a scene like this.
i suppose he wanted to embarrass her...thus getting back at her for 'forcing' him to eat chinese food.
sounds like the pair of them could use some counselling.

it's not the 'cat' in your wifes' pants - that's for sure!

a skinned one

a dumpster cat

honestly, how do you know it's not a cat?
i only eat at one chinese restaurant and that's because i know the owners and have been to their home and have been in the kitchen at the restaurant and i know how CLEAN these people are. and i know that they own cats - they don't eat them.

How was he "forced"? Ok, here's the deal, if you're too much of a wimp to say no, then keep shut the entire night!

I would have said "Your mother's"

and then told him that everyone knows that the cat is chicken and the dog is beef.

i think it's probably best to ignore it...this guy is agitated already and anything you might say would probably just get him even more riled up...next time you dine out with this couple you might think twice..... (and just to add my two cents....i think it's also rude of his wife to force him to eat food he hates....she was kind of asking for it)
