Is it possible for someone weighing 140 pounds at the onset of a diet/exercise regime to lose 20 pounds in 50 days? If so, how? If not, why not?

(Whether or not the method used for the weightloss is "healthy" is immaterial, it's purely a hypothetical question. However, it must be practical.)

clarification: I'm 5'5" and weigh 118 lbs. This is a hypothetical question ONLY. I'm not concerned as to potential health issues, only whether or not it could be done, and if so, how.

800? Please. It's bad for when you don't exercise and exert energy, what makes you think you can exercise AND eat that little? Food is fuel. No lie. You'll starve yourself and so your body will cling to whatever food it gets and store it as fat-- opposite of your goal. The healthy route to weight loss is around 1200 calories, if you're really dedicated. On average with exercise you would lose from 1-3 lbs a week. But y'know what? Even if you lose only 5 lbs, you might noticed a huge difference in how you look.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Start out by fasting with a mix of water, lemon juice, and ceyenne pepper. Do this for a week if you can, then get the Cambridge Diet Shakes 3 times a day. Pick the flavored ones like strawberry, lemon, coffee, chocolate, etc. Their fast start program really works. And you must walk at least an hour daily. You'll lose 20lbs in as little as 30 days.

a weight loss of about 1 lbs a day or 7 lbs a week is OK but not if sustained for over 60 days. to get weight off quick i suggest alot of cardio such as walking running and swimming. eating all your meals everyday and cutting portions also plays a role in weight loss. also for strengthening and flexibility try yoga or pilaties.

I have to say it is possible. I lost 30lbs in 1 1/2 months and am still losing. I didn't eat if I wasn't hungry! That's all there is to it. If you are not hungry, why force yourself to sit down at breakfast, lunch and dinner! I started eating when I felt hungry and the weight starting falling off.

Even if this means you don't eat until 11:00pm at night, then so be it.

I have 2 or 3 cups of coffee in the morning, a snack or lunch in the afternoon and then dinner when I get hungry.

Good luck.............

It is completely possible. I did it in 2001 for spring break. I went from 232lbs. on Martin Luther King day to 186lbs. by the end of the first week of March.

How?
1.Start at a half hour cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. Build up to one hour within 2 weeks. Heart rate was 165+ after warmup.

2. one hour of weights mid-day to afternoon.

3. Half hour cardio at night. Build up to one hour within 2 weeks.

4. Repeat 6 days a week

I ate vegetables, meal replacement shakes, beans, tuna, and pasta. I also drank about a gallon of water a day. I had no social life in those 6-7 weeks. I distinctly remember when I would go to bed every night literally falling asleep within seconds (that was a great thing for me since I was coming off a bad depression). I was in college so that helped. It would be alittle harder to do on a FT job.

yes. that is a VERY resnable weight.
just go to BMI and follow that, and put your hieght now
and the weight you want to be, and make sure your NOT underweight.
So just follow these simple instructions:

1. Eat healthy, Be healthy.
a.)eat all the foods from the food prymid.
b.) stay away from fastfoods, and juck food.
c.)Drink alot of fluids, water, orange juice, and milk.(non-fat milk !)

2. Excercise.
a.) join a gym and go on the machenes like tredmils, cycle or the steps.
b.) no gym ? then run 3 miles, a week, not all in one day.
c.)Do sit-ups.
d.)Find a sport you like and do that alot.(running,swimming,bikeriding,tennis,soccer.....ect;)

3.Don't over do it.
a.)Don't over excercise, it can be bad for the muscles
and can cause tearing. NOT GOOD !
b.) Streach before active sports.
c.) don't starve to loose weight, because you need foods
when you excercise. and IF you start eating again, your body will store all the fat it can to prepare for starvation again, and you will be TWICE as big as befor you went on the diet.
d.)Don't just change over night to eating healthy and excersising all the time. slowly adjust your body. thats best.

P.S.
also look up negative calorie foods and eat alot of those fruits and veggies.
and you can look up PREMIUM WU-LONG TEA on ebay. this tea helps you loose weight, and it will have cheeper prices, and full info.
GOOD LUCK :D !

Not likely. At 140 you can't have too much weight to lose and the last pounds are the hardest. Fiber and water can speed up weight loss.

I haven never heard someone losing 20 pounds in fifty days, I'm sure its possible, but only in extreme measures. Like your stuck in a dessert walking and you don't have any food. But your body would eventually quit on you before it would lose weight. I think your organs would start to turn off before any such weight would be lost.
