First of all I am surprised with the ignorance of the participating readers about the arranged marriage. The arranged marriages are not the decision of Parents or family. Others may have a say or opinions but the final decision is of the individual going to marry. Family, relatives and friends only help in process of finding a partner.
The men involved looks majority for looks, presentation, decency, area of interest, future plans, friends etc. This are the same parameters the one you look when you are dating.
The people (men or women) involved in marriages (arranged or Love) are normally of young age and they hardly have any experience of social and family responsibilities. They can hardly think beyond physical attraction. The benefit or arranged marriage is that other parameters of happy married life are identified and sorted out by family, relatives and friends and that is one reason why arranged marriages even after hitting a rock survives.

i think in men they choose on the basis of the family becoz as i think when the person does not known to each other then i think family matters very much becoz by tht only people can get an idea about the nature of the person about their etics, their beliefs their way of living and way of behaving with elders and the youngers. And now about the status if u think practically the person will get be arranged marrige they must hav the favour to get the person of their same status only and i think looks dosent matters if ur mentality is good and having the good nature everyone like u. Ur heart and feelings must be good for everyone.THTS IT

I've known a few couples who were in arranged marriages. First their fathers usually chose the partner for them. And it was usually based first on status, next on family and lastly on looks.

Cultures that arrange marriages usually think of a marriage more as a sealing of a business contract than joining of two lives in a loving relationship.

I am amazed at the ignorance....in India arranged marriages have a higher rate of sucess than love marriages..( cant remember where I read these stats ). But in the end...one thing is universal, the hard part comes after tying the knot....both have to work to make the marraige suceed. For me, I chose my wife basis looks...she turned me on, and she still turns me on 11 years down the line.........diff guys will have diff turn ons....difficult to answer the question, practically speaking.

Traditionally-- in many cultures-- the 'family' (parents) choose the brides based on family connection, mostly, although they probably also look for good genetics and ability to bear sons.

The guys who arrange for marriages with women from economically ravaged countries? They go on looks and youth and ego massage.

Honey, if it's an arranged marriage, the men aren't choosing, it usually means their parents are. They are just as surprised as the bride.
