This is really between your stepdaughter and your wife, and you're in a delicate situation if you get in the middle. Does your wife want her daughter to check in by phone? If so, it's up to her to say so. If your stepdaughter lives with you, it would be OK to require it. If she's out on her own, the best you can do is let her know, politely, that it would make YOU feel better if she phoned now and again to say she's OK, or she's late, etc. Not a good idea to try to tell her what to do vis a vis her mum. Good luck!

No offense, but if she is 20, you really don't have much say in what she does. Unless she still lives at home.

Try sitting her down and talking about Mom's fears or worry.

Dad - why don't you talk to daughter and let her know how you feel!
