This is a great website with cake ideas and party ideas, and you could look at the 'party it forward' idea. But if that doesn't sound good, the ideas are really cool.

My son, when he turned ten, had a videogame party, we rented an extra system and controllers, and set up a round robin system where everyone got to play each other. It was supermarioworld, which was very fun...we made a giant cake shaped like a mushroom, and we had bowls of green and red m&m's (for mario and luigi of course) My husband made a cardboard yoshi, and they played bean bag toss with that for a long time. We also set up races outside, where they did relay races dressing up in mario and luigi clothes, 'plumbers toss', where we played horseshoes with wrenches, and also a obstacle course, where they had to jump over rocks and climb fences.

Pirates of the Carribean is really popular right now. You could have a pirate-themed birthday party. You could also have the party at a restaurant so that's less wear and tear on your home and the restaurant would have to clean up! You don't usually even need to rent rooms from restaurants - you can just tell them it will be a little birthday party and they might just give you the private room anyway.

Build-A-Bear workshop throws birthday parties too. They look enjoyable for a little kid. Usually when I see one at the mall the kids are really entertained!

When I throw a b-day party for my kids I try to make the theme about a character that my kids enjoy. My oldest daughter likes pooh and dora, so I try to do it around one of those. We usually don't have a lot of kids over so its like a small party with a few games for the kids to play and of course cake and ice cream. Last year we had a pool party.

When my son was ten, he and his friends were into military stuff. We had a "training day". The boys wore camouflage, we made an obstacle course in the yard and ate rations. Their take-home gifts were a canteen. You can buy all sorts of stuff at a surplus store.

You could take them to a sporting event. Also, depending on where you live, a trip to a local espn zone is always alot of fun. It depends what the kid likes
