I have always found a good couples present is something you can do together. A favorite board game, a day out at the zoo or something.

Or if you are inclined some sensual massage oils...

why dont you suggest he take you out for a night on the town.
i am assuming you live in chicago. there are tons of little romantic things you can do to celebrate your birthdays.
i suggest grab a bottle (or 2) of your favorite wine and head to a BYOB place. or try a fancy or trendy place you normally wouldnt.(look at metromix.com if you want a certain type of food or neighborhood)
gifts dont always have to be things- they can be things you do together- something a bit different than the normal things we do when dating.
Have fun and...
Happy Birthday!

How about getting you something that doesn't cost any money? Why does his gift have to have a dollar value on it? Spend a special day together, go the beach, whatever. If none of that appeals to you, then why not donate a gift in your name to charity?

do something together,,,,for instance,,me and my hubby went to the peak district and were thrown down a hill in one of those huge rubber balls you both get inside,,it was great and he was laughing so hard he spat on me while whirling round.....use the money for a great memory you can both share.

how about a day together just the two of you.... presents DON'T have to be materialistic. Tell him you want to spend ONE WHOLE day with him....... bowling, mini-golfing, eating pizza....
just laughing & making memories to last a lifetime.

tell him to get you a few giftcards. If you don't want anything now, you'll want something later.
