If the breeding was done by a responsible breeder with a thorough knowledge of his dogs' pedigrees going back 3 generations, nothing. When it's done by someone with no knowledge whatsoever, you are doubling up on every fault that is in either of the parents - that includes all health problems, bad temperaments and any conformation faults. You should know your dogs, figure it out.

There is a very high chance for birth defects, such as more then four legs or less then four legs, blindness, deafness, heart defects and other organ defects. They can aso be born without a spinal cord, not be able to walk or use any of their legs. They can also later on in their lives develop serious diseases, and most wont live out their full lives. But a lot of times the puppies will be born dead. It doesn't matter if the breeder is "responsible" these chances are still there and still very high.

Honestly this is often done when a breeder of a dog first gets started.
buys 2 dogs....male and female
then when that have a litter of puppies they save a female for further breeding and sell the rest.
This is how full blooded dogs get started to a breeder. Its also bad because it can cause birth defects and other issues with the dogs!

The chances that it will have a genetic defect is greater because you increase the chances of a recessive lethal/recessive mutant gene to occur in the puppies.
Typically inbreeding is NOT a good idea.

Sometimes they have puppies. No, they're usually NOT retarded. However if the father and daughter has poor genes (ex. hip dysplasia(sp)) it could be a double whammy for a small pup. Inbreeding is a huge NO NO.

That was a BIG mistake. The puppies will probably come out deformed. To lower the risk of deformities go to the vet and see what he has to say.

There is a higher risk for birth and mental defects because it is inbred.
