I have a lower back tatoo.... A good size one.. not too large not too small. I will not lie, it did hurt, but it the pain was manageable. I did cringe several times when they were doing the filling in of the colors, that seemed to be the worst for me. But overall, it wasnt as bad as I thought. And I am not much for pain or needles and I survived my tatoo:) and I love it today :)

no one can tell you how you will react to tattooing...
i've seen people cave after just a few minutes... and i've seen people sit through hours of work without batting an eye... the pain associated with specific placements varies from person to person...
it really just depends on your pain threshold... how badly you want the tattoo... what you had for breakfast... how much sleep you got... your menstrual cycle... everything!
for some the outline hurts more... for others, the shading... the amount of detail, shading, and size of the tattoo will have an impact on which part is the most/least painful.
the only way to really find out what will hurt and what you can't stand is to have someone take a needle to your back...
i recommend taking a muscle relaxer (or a - as in one - shot of tequila) prior to getting inked... just enough to relax, but not enough to be wiped out or drunk...
also, finding an artist you trust is very important... find someone with a light touch by asking friends, relatives, total strangers about their tattoos and their artists... once you get some good references, talk to the artists and find the one that gives you the best vibe...
the one on my lower back was one of the least painful - partly because my back isn't as sensitive as my fleshier areas - sides, tummy, etc... and partly due to my artist's abilities. for me, the least painful places to get tattoos are my shoulders and feet... and outlines don't bother me at all, but shading feels like i'm having my skin peeled off...however, it may not be the same for you.

I recently just got a tattoo on my lower back and it wasn't that bad. There was a few spots where my leg or arm twitched but it wasn't that bad. I asked my tattoo artist to put on some music to get my mind off the sound of the gun. Its all on your tolerance for pain and I could handle alot. Good luck and enjoy.

I'm 13 and I got a real tattoo. I have a tattoo on my eyebrow because i have a scar on it. In the first time, it doesn't hurt, but since it's a scar, they have to do it severral time in the same place, so it hurts. Since you're going to have a tattoo on your skin, it doesn't hurt. Unless, the needle colors your skin in one place for too long.

depends on your own personal pain tolerance/cycle/etcetc, if thats where you really want it go for it. mine hurt like a ***** for the first part. I hugged a giant bear the whole time and made me feel soemwhat better. some peopl cant deal with it others can. decide if thats where you really really want it or not.

it depends on your pain tolerance level. i have never had the pain stop after a few minutes. this year i have gotten 9 hours of tattoo done on my back and every single minute of it hurts. but it is bearable and i have never had trouble sitting. i just bring along a good book and enjoy it.
this is 6 of my nine hours of work.

it really depends on your pain tolerance. mine hurt on the outline only. when it got to the shading it went numb. it kinda feels like a continuous scratch. you always feel the vibration of the gun. and the artist stops alot to wipe the blood away so it gives you a break.

Getting a tatto on your lower back is just a fad. Why don't you come up with something unique? You'll like your tatooo better.
