I am 17. I have known this guy for about 7 mo now...he is a family friend. I've always liked him. and we have become a lot closer. Could I (being 17yrs old) actually date a 24 year old??

First off, its not illegal! After 17 it's only your consent that can press charges. Not parents, and not cops..
But Ya, definitely keep it in mind. Especially if its someone you already feel like you know and trust. Some people are Weiry of this situation, but thats usually only because they don't feel that they know the person well enough, and know what their intentions are. As you get older, it's almost a definite that your going to start dating older guys. I'm a sophomore in college, i've already dated that age range and my oldest was 26. And Plus! older guys are about as mature as a 17 yr old anyways ;o)

I think he's too old. A lot of guys that age don't have anything in common with girls your age and only want one thing. Now if we completely put that aside we need to look at life experience and what you have in common. What you really have in common. Where are you going right now? Where is he going? What are your shared goals? What do you talk about? Why can't you wait until you are 18? How will your families react?
There are a lot of questions to be answered that you have to think about. I know people who have done this and the younger person always ends up feeling trapped or feeling like they lost out on a part of their growing up.

No harm but limits u hve to observe/ which is very difficult in the present times/ Even if u decide to mary at a later stage the difference in the ages should be minimum 6 years/ female if younger by 6 years is considered to be the best/ Mind u let this not be calf love. you should wait until you are 18 but at the same time when I was your age I dated older guys and I honestly don't see it being a problem unless he as like 40 or something. Most people will not agree with me and I have gotten into huge arguements because of this. To save youself from the negative feedback that you will def. get if you start dating this guy wait until you are 18 at least...

Well it allthough you are 17 and he is 24 it comes to the point if you love each other!
If you do then yes you should go on a date with him and see it from this point soon you will be 18 and it wont seem all to wrong if you go out with him now.

Why don't you just give it until you are 18. If you really like him, you wouldn't want him going to jail or getting trouble for dating you would you? Plus it would look a lot more mature and respectable to your family, etc if they knew you guys were interested but were being responsible enough to wait until you were of the age. I thought it was just illegal if you started having sexual relations besides just kissing on the lips? It could be considered controversial to date someone older but that never sent anyone to jail?
You're not far from 18 so I guess it'[s ok... if u were less than that it's a bit odd I guess.

you're just asking for trouble there. wait until you are at least 18.
and ask yourself - why does this guy have to date someone so young? he has all the power in this relationship. he can drive, drink, go to any bar or concert he wants to, and you cant. Is there something wrong with him that he cant relate to women his own age? does he need to be in control in this relationship?

You could, but it would be more appropriate if you waited until you were over 18 to "date" him...just be friends and hang out!

Wait 'til ya turn 18 to make it legal and keep him from risking issues with dating a minor. Otherwise...should be fine...
